1098 Replacement Immobilizer Antenna - Pn: 51840042b.

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by RTD, May 16, 2026.

  1. Hello.
Does anyone know where a replacement 1098S immobilizer antenna with listed part number: 51840042B, can be obtained?
Despite the fact that it is listed as fitted to a number of other models from the period, a number of Ducati dealers say the part is not currently available.
If the listed part number cannot be obtained, is there an alternative that will provide the required function, or a workaround in the interim?
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks.
    Tom.

  2. The 51840041A is the same antenna, just has a different connector. Would be a simple job to fit the correct connector. Guessing, a 2-way Superseal.

Used would be the way to go to source a 51840042B as it appears discontinued.

  3. If you search ‘Immobilizer ignition antenna’ on eBay you may find a suitable (new) one to fit the ignition shroud. The connector will be wrong but a 2-way Superseal connector will convert it.

  4. Chris,
Many thanks for your contribution on this, it is much appreciated.
We followed your advice and searched on eBay for the suggested phrase, and variations on it.
There are two used items in Italy that showed from a search using: 51840042B, but they did not look the same as the original item and included very little application information. However, there is a new 51840041A in Japan, and another in UK that appear to have the correct part number and do look the same as the original, which we are looking into.
Also, there are many items that look similar to the original, mainly from China for general application, but not listed for a Ducati, and without a specification and an understanding of the antenna function, it's unlikely they would be suitable.
It seems odd that a part used on many Ducati models from not that long ago, may be rendered unusable, without a replacement for the discontinued part, unless a more affordable extensive modification using currently available parts is available, but if so it was not suggested by the Ducati dealers contacted so far.
Thanks again for the information and advice, and any other suggestions or workarounds remain of interest.
    Tom.

  5. Unfortunately motor manufacturers only have to make spares available for 10 years after production ends.

If you have a Fiat dealer nearby, pay them a visit. The part may be used on some Fiat vehicles. I did this with the TPS fitted to the likes of the 999 and 1198. Turned out it was used on the Punto and cost just over £30. Ducati wanted to sell a full throttle body unit!!!

  6. Try Fiat part number 46477981. The connector would need swapping.

  8. Fiat part number: 46477981, looks very like the Ducati original, but may have been replaced by Fiat part: 46538274.
Alternative number: 1344973080, appears to be fitted to Fiat Ducato vans, but is not readily available in UK. There appears to be alternatives for the Ducato, but they have different mounting arrangements that may not be suitable for the bike.
We plan to check out the options tomorrow when suppliers are likely to contactable.
Thanks again for the great support.

  9. The link above shows 3 options for the antenna, with 3 different product codes, which are not the original part number.
    We'll do more checking tomorrow.
    Many thanks.

  10. An update on obtaining a replacement immobilizer for a 1098S.
After much searching for alternatives to the 51840042B version of the part, including checking similar options for different vehicles, further enquiries with different Ducati dealers revealed that the earlier version of the part @chrisw identified: 51840041A, can still be purchased from Ducati. It is not listed as an alternative for the many models fitted with 51840042B, but the antenna is the same and only the connector is different, again as identified by @chrisw, so once the connector is changed or adapted the antenna can be fitted to provide the necessary signal required for the bike to start.
The antenna history seems to start with 51840041A, superseded by 51840041B and then C, then replaced by 51840042B that is now discontinued by Ducati; without reference to the previous part numbers.
The are many Ducati models from the period covered, that could become unusable if fitted with later versions of the antenna which suffered a fault, and without a replacement part suggested by Ducati; not least of which appears to be the D16 Desmosedici RR, with a £50 part possibly interfering with the use of a £50k+ motorcycle:

So after discovering that 51840041A should work, with some adaption, and it being available from Ducati for about £50, the part was bought, adapted, fitted and the bike is now running as previously.
The solution was only possible because of @chrisw's knowledge of the system and its constituent parts, and while Ducati did not offer the original part as an alternative to that discontinued, they did supply it when ordered and it has worked.
I hope this is of interest, and possible use to other forum members, who might have a similar problem in the future.
    Thanks again to @chrisw.
