Washed it, stripped it… Body work needs some delicate touches so that is off to Padded Cell have ordered belts, oil filter, fuel filter and o-ring. Just need to sort some plugs, oil and a couple of seals. Then swap all that over so the valve clearances and see if she runs… After that it will be swingarm pivot, rebuild all calipers, new fluids, strip and clean everything and replace dried out rubber shizzle and see how we get on.
I think what happened is the clip on clamp snapped while he was manoeuvring it into the garage. it then sat there with a brand new clamp and bar and became one of those jobs that he never did. The previous owner also has a 550 Maranello Ferrari in storage.
Well that is the bodywork dropped off… The normal scrapes and dings but one panel has a crack which is why the paint cracked. Forgot to take a pic ♂️ Fuel pump and filter sorted now awaiting tank to come back. Belt covers off - belts are a touch loose but look in good order but they will be changed anyway. Noticed that the rear throttle body has a bit missing from the casing which is annoying. I like things to be right so I have a mint set of throttle bodies coming from Italy.
Very good question but it has been like that for a while… I can only imagine it has fallen off and vibrated out somewhere considering that the inlet trumpet would have been in there. Having turned the engine over by hand a fair few times it all turns OK but I will be getting the torch out to put my mind at rest
Get one of those endoscopes on fleabay and put it down plug hole and check no dings on piston crown. Unlikely I know but it would give you piece of mind. Plus theyre handy those endoscopes. It prob broke when putting the bellmouth on. My vert one is a tight fecker.
That is the belts changed…said on one of the covers they were changed in 2002… Bloody tricky getting them onto the rollers… tensioned and all timing marks line up so valve clearances next….there appear to be various methods…. Any tips on what is simplest with engine in the bike? I will have the intakes removed as well as radiator for ease of access
That is the rad off……coolant just kept coming…rad was a bit crusty from coolant gunk but it is in good nick. Surprised at how well some of the rubber components have held up. Valve clearances most likely next weekend plus a Muc Off clean up then I can start to put the engine bits back together to get it to run.
Oh…..how come is that? I suppose I could easily just get a new set of locking nuts and do it that way.
So…… new throttle bodies have arrived. They are not identical to mine. Firstly they are 46mm at the bottom not 44mm which I assume means they are for a 916. Will that make any difference? They also have this secondary cable mount as pictured, not that it will get in the way but what is it? Finally….this fell out of them when I was having a look at them. Any clues as to what it is? Oil & filter arrived, plugs arrived, air filters arrived so am good to go in getting it running assuming the above is OK
I would say that is what was in your cable hole!! Probably has a hole through it for locking wire so your wire isn’t being subject to direct vibration!! (I could be wrong) but from memory that’s what it is
if its the internal diameter then i would think yes. in any event, i wouldnt personally be fitting wrong parts knowingly given it somewhat defeats the purpose of a recommission. stick them on ebay and get teh right ones. lots around
