1200 DVT Right Hand Switch Home Button Issue

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by glenandem, Apr 27, 2025.

  1. so my home on/off button on the right hand side doesn't always turn the bike/ign off, not tried cleaning anything yet but have noticed when it does it, if I give the wiring a wiggle underneath it shuts down.
could it be as simple as a bad connection or are the switch gear known for breaking down?

  2. Maybe open up the switch housing and spray some contact cleaner in there and also check for any signs of corrosion or damaged wiring. It does sound like a loose or poor connection. If you manage to identify the cause, while you are in there, smear all the contacts with dielectric grease. That should prevent any moisture from attacking the surface of any metal components. Often a poorly routed wire or one that has moved, can stretch the wiring on full lock, placing strain on the connector and ultimately breaking it somwehere internally. I would also get a multimeter on it, both at the handlebar end and where it connects into the loom, to rule out a break somewhere in the wiring run itself.

  3. It's a bugger to get into that switch when on tour... don't ask how I know. Needs a fine torx and also an electrical screw driver to release the wiring connector. Ducati Nice sorted mine in the end, needed a new switch cluster, it's effectively a sealed unit as far as Ducati are concerned. There is a flexible PCB/ribbon arrangement within. Mine was shorting out so that the starter button was switching the ignition off. Only way to start the bike was to bump it, not an easy task. Then due to the flaky connection it might cut out again down the road... rinse, repeat...
