  1. I found it pretty uncomfortable to watch, probably because I could see the selfishness needed. I didn't realise until I stopped racing how much it affected my family, especially the missus, even though she never made it an issue while I was doing it. Subsequently know she suffered in silence.
It's all the boys know. Had tears in my eyes when Michael described coming across his dads accident and holding his hand whilst he died.
Overall I thought it was too downbeat, focussing on the tragedy more than the achievement. I know it makes for more popular TV viewing but it could have been more about overcoming it and coming out into the light after.

  2. I agree bills have to be paid but, if you'd have gone through the most part of your life winning and dominating the sport, hung up the crash helmet then there are still other opportunities, I think your sheer credibility would carry you a long way....look at Jamie whitham.....I think I could safely say he's got his fingers in all the pies....I would say he makes a pretty good living as I think he owns his own helicopter...im not saying everyone can do that who stops racing but certainly the ones around the top end....Guy Martin...another one - obviously hes still racing but he's laying the groundwork to branch out...

  3. Just to re-iterate let say Mike Dunlop turned it in tomorrow. While he probably wouldn't make it as a presenter (although ive gotta be honest id love it if he was walking around a motogp grid just before a race starts with a mic in his hand) - he'd clean up running a race school!

  4. Better to use his road experience. IAM instructor? He's got the Beemer... (Actually I think the most natural alternative career would be boxing. He's scary.)

  5. Really? Yep he does have fab communicaio skills and is brill at putting peolpe at ease and sharing his inner thoughts on whats happening around

  6. He was perfectly civil when I ran into him at a Bike show in London. Seemed very nice to me. Tiny though

  7. Small people are nice too you know ;)

  8. Most people seem small to me though :Angelic:

  9. Heh - my comments weren't based on how he looks or appears but more on the fact that everytime ive seen him being interviewed he pretty well says it as it is....that would be a refreshing change....I did briefly say hello to him a couple of years back at the tt - from recollection he was wearing a pair of boxer shorts, t-shirt and one sock...

  10. Oh I agree with you, when on a bike he is one of the most determined men I've ever seen. He doesn't take any prisoners and for me, he's one of the most, if not, most exciting racers of the modern age. Its this attitude that separates him from his brother and its one of the key reasons why he's winning. My comment was just to demonstrate that away from the track, he's seemed utterly normal. Likes a Starbucks strawberries and cream frappuccino too

  11. Yep. My point exactly... Nice bloke but very determined.

  12. Napoleon complex?

  13. Not sure where I mentioned height or size el toro...? just the fact that he was a nice bloke who says it how it is.....

  14. Matt did...said he was a dwarf, apparently ;)

  15. Ah - not me though....didn't seem that small to me....but then im not that tall either....well, average height... I only replied to that as he quoted me....which had nothing to do with height or size...

  16. he's not that much taller than you @bradders :Angelic:

  17. similar height I imagine, its the build that makes us fast road riders ;)

and anyone with a big neck looks like they should be a boxer or a rugby player...

  18. I watched it last night & wasn't that impressed. Even with the misery of the dunlop deaths it was not that invigorating for road racing fans.
