Thats exactly what id be doing if i was minted except itd be the moto gp circus id be following not the f1 snoozefest. Were still waiting to hear what punishments hamiltons going to get for having the temerity to try and win a world championship lol
Anybody want to hazard a guess who Mercedes will take on to fill Rosberg's vacant slot? My suggestion is: Pascal Wehrlein.
Is a Mercedes driver and the logical choice, particularly as most contracts would have been settled by now.
It is entirely possible that Mercedes do not think that Wehrlein is mature enough to take on the responsibility of a Mercedes drive. They also know exactly how fast he is from the tests that he does for them. Due to the car regulation changes that come into force in 2017 none of the teams can be entirely certain of the relative performance of their cars at this time. So to be as safe as possible Mercedes will want a driver who is as fast or faster than Rosberg. They will already know from the testing he has done if Wehrlein fits those criteria. If Mercedes have any doubts about Wehrlein I suspect that they will get Valtteri Bottas from Williams. Bottas is managed by Toto Wolff and regardless of contracts I am sure that Williams would accept a suitable deal from Mercedes to take Wehrlein. Williams' other 2017 driver is Lance Stroll, who is only 18, so they would want something favourable from Mercedes to accept losing an experienced driver like Bottas. Mercedes helping Williams to reduce their costs, by paying for Wehrlein, and increasing the performance of their car is probably something they'd accept.
Sensible decision from N1co. Clearly he had considered it well in advance, and his refusal to answer a question directly after the final race about driving with a number 1 on the car next year was an indication that he didn't want to get into any conversations about next year before he was ready to make his announcement. I think he has retired for three reasons : 1. He put incredible strain on his family life this year in order to concentrate entirely on winning - far more so than in previous years. He has achieved his goal and now wants to spend time with his family - fair play to him. 2. He doesn't want to be one of those drivers who win a championship and then slowly cascade backwards down the grid for the rest of their career. Without giving the job his full attention - as he has done this year - he would only be there making up the numbers, so far better to retire now. Fair play to him again. 3. His only option for next year would be to be in a team with Hamilton - who he clearly detests, for obvious reasons. Given the level of "sportsmanship" Hamilton has displayed in general, and especially towards the end of this season, who can blame him for not wanting to be there for another season? For some people, winning once is enough. Others are driven to keep trying. I have no doubt he will appear in Sportscars, GT's or DTM at some point in the future - but for now I hope he enjoys his well-earned time with his family...
Yes he certainly ticks the most boxes and I am sure they want to have a German driver in the team. I would however love to see Alonso up against Hamilton again. There is a lot of unfinished business between the two and Alonso is such a great driver who has spent too many years in the wrong team at the wrong time. They are IMHO the best two drivers of their generation (Mad Max is the best of the new generation).
To quit at the top is a very difficult thing to do. So I have respect for Rosberg in doing so. However quitting whilst you are second best and accepting that you will never achieve what you have been working towards for 20 years is even harder. If the strain on his family life was too much this season then he quite probably would have quit even if he'd come second. I suspect that some drivers would be prepared to sacrifice their marriage for a world championship, but I don't think that Rosberg is one of them. If he felt he had given it his all this year and only come second then I suspect that he would have concluded that he would never be world champion. Combined with the strain it put on his family I think he would have still quit F1. I think he probably started to think about retiring mid season. His knowledge that this was his last chance to be world champion may well have been a factor in his race wins in Belgium, Italy and Singapore, leading to his win in Japan which I think cemented his belief that he could be world champion and also his intention to retire. Rosberg has always known and has even said that Hamilton is a quicker driver and so to beat him to a world championship in the same car is some achievement. He's not got the ego of a top racer (Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel) and so he can accept quitting after one world championship because he knows that he is unlikely to win another.
My sisters other half used to work for RBR and always said it was fairly common knowledge in the paddock that Alonso in equal cars is probably the quickest of them all. I really don't like shamilton. Little brat that thinks he's Hollywood
went to see ENGvAUZ last sat to twickenham. was at the same table as 3 people from that F1 world. conversation went about drivers (not for long!) unanimous - all said hamilton is a prick and rosberg is OK. and strangely enough to my ears 2x of them who work close to Max verstappen said he is a prick as well? all 3 were really nice people. just because you good at your job you should not be a prick to others? i am good at my job - and i am not awful to people i work with rosberg probably just got fed up
McLaren’s Fernando Alonso didn’t need asking twice when offered the chance to ride reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez’s bike at Japan’s Motegi Alonso takes to two wheels at Honda celebration
Just Toto throwing people off the scent of you ask me. He has just confirmed they would consider him... they would really answer the same about any top driver. it doesn't really matter when the Redbull will be the best car next year
He said he would have had one more year if he didn't win it this year. I could quote but can't be arsed.
