Scott leathers

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Argonaut, Mar 23, 2012.

  1. How long have you been waiting now?

  2. Plus one on Hideout, used them twice for repairs and both times they had the job done when they said it would be and "they phoned me" to say my leathers were ready for collection. Really pleasant to deal with and have been making high quality leathers for well over 30 years. Wouldn't consider using anyone else after my experience with them which is why I spent £400 with them on a pair of Daytona boots yesterday, great service yet again.:upyeah:

In contrast, I bought a new jacket from Hideout this Xmas. Ordered at the NEC again, first fitting at the end of Jan, collected 2 weeks later. Ok, so it's more expensive, but the quality is better and at least you'll actually get them promptly rather than being fobbed off with broken promises.[/QUOTE]

  3. Ordered at the London Excel, was promised them 4-6 weeks, give them a week then cancel I think.
Have a hideout suit aswell, but was impressed with Scott quality for a new set. Ho hum....

  4. Week 16 - Cancelled the order and got a refund.

Last excuse given was "we are really busy, you should have more patience......one customer has been waiting since November"

Made me feel like my order was an inconvenience to them, which is just disgusting given the current financial climate.

They don't deserve to be in business - Caveat Emptor.....buyer beware.

  5. More patience?

Like you my money would be on its way elsewhere!

They are busy trying to stay in business....but someone needs to tell them making leathers and keeping customers happy is their business.

They won't make money from making excuses they'll make it from making leathers!

  6. If all of the above isnt exaggerated then that really is piss poor customer service......

  7. Crazy. Buy now get 6 month later.

  8. If your lucky!

  9. Been looking at other suits today.......not sure what to go for:

    1) Dainese suit - Looks good, fits relatively well - £850 plus a few minor adjustments here and there
    2) AM Leathers made-to-measure suit - £811 after ACU licence discount, but got to drive up to Barnard-Castle near Newcastle (330 miles each way!) for measurements to be taken, and another visit for final fitting and any adjustments.

Anyone got experience of either AM Leathers or Dainese suits?

  10. Bks leathers, top notch.had mine for 12 yrs still good as new.by the way mean the ones made by bks not the ones frank Thomas made under license.

  11. Scott leathers are in Barnard Castle, I would be wary, seems strange two bike leathers manufacturers in the same town !

You cannot go wrong with Dainese, great quality leather, well made and they fit better than most other suits.

  12. Nice leathers, but not on my shopping list i'm afraid - Over my budget and the last time i spoke to them they had a four month waiting list.

  13. I've got Dainese leathers - 3 sets in fact..... they fit supremely well and are well made and without giving more ammunition to Royum & JerryXT to take the piss - I can vouch that they crash well having tested two of the 3 pairs, once. Bought my first suit with the whole of my first months wages, when I first graduated - and the suit was awesome quality, and was made in Italy. I've got two later Ducati Performance sets - a 1 piece and a 2 piece - these two suits weren't made in Italy and the quality in my opinion isn't quite as good, but still very good overall.

Its down to fit and budget at the end of the day and the old saying that you get what you pay for.... You could also have a look Alpinestars and Arlen Ness as other options to compare ?

  14. I'm probably going to go with the Dainese......liked the fit and comfort, design etc.

Am currently using a set of Alpinestars, but i'm not overly impressed with them.

  15. Hmm interesting - as I was going to look at AStar next time round - what dont you like about them ?

  16. I've got an RC-1 jacket, which isn't bad, but the joining zip is in the very loosely fitted internal lining.

So, when the suit is zipped together ht feels too flimsy and the jacket rides up a bit more than I'd like, and the jeans feel like they are constantly falling down.

Comfort on the bike is ok though, but.....

The Back protector feels like a slab of plywood, not very flexible at all, to the point on longer rides it's like a medieval torture device.

  17. As iang27 said,
Barnard Castle is only a small place....far too small to support two custom leather manufacturers, I would have thought, there must be some connection there.
I'd do the homework before I travelled that far....

  18. Massive apologies to Stevie from AM Leather's who are in no way connected to the current incarnation of Scott leathers, but unfortunately have to trade in the same town as a less reputable trader.....And as I and others frequently incorrectly presume there is a connection, I feel the need to say sorry m8 to Stevie....

  19. A brief rundown of the history of leather's from Barnard Castle....

AM Leathers started in 1989, when TT leathers, went tits up. Also from the ashes of TT Leathers, Scott leathers formed, by one of the directors of TT leathers. since then, the director,(James Miller Aird) has had several desolved companies,,,,, SCOTT LEATHERS...SCOTT LEATHERS LTD,,,,SCOTT LEATHERS (INTERNATIONAL)LTD,,,ULTIMATE USA LTD,,, and the latest..Since December.. Scott Custom......
There is no connection with AM LEATHERS what so ever....they have extensive problems with them being in the same town, and being in the same industry. Companies that they source their materials from, have to be convinced, that they have no connection with Scott Leathers, Scott leathers International,Ultimate USA Ltd or Scott Custom, for the above reasons.
YES by all means do your homework, but it is handy to have the correct reference to base comments on..

    Hope this helps Guys....

  20. Good info Anth as I like many other people may have 'assumed' that they were in some way connected as like you said Barnard Castle is small and to have two specialist manufacturers in the same town is very rare.

The way Scott are going they may not be there that much longer !
