good to know - which one do you use to infer assembly date as the ones mentioned are dates of manufacturer for the respective parts or is there one which denotes when the whole lot was put together?

The panels only get fitted at the end of the production line and the frame is usually(but not always) the oldest date that is marked. The factory does not stock thousands of spares awaiting fitment. You can get the date the bike was shipped from the factory. I would say mine was built summer 2001 but assembly started in May
