bbc2, anyone watching? Colourised and digitised original films from ww1. With commentary from soldiers.
I watched “brothers in football” which is the story of Corinthians Casuals from Tolworth who inspired the founding of Corinthians Paulista in São Paulo in Brazil and who lost 160 members of the club in ww1. Fascinating story.
I agree, brought it to stark reality far more. The documentery about it's making afterwards was interesting as well.
Wish I could have watched it. If you like a fascinating read, get 1915- The Death of Innocence by Lyn MacDonald. A compilation of frontline soldiers diaries. It really takes you there and puts things in perspective- Like your 'having a bad day' perspective...
Robert Laurence Binyon‘s poem reads.. “They shall grow not old” They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
Thanks, but I'm offshore Africa and don't get access to such stuff. I'm on a Shell server which is quite restrictive.
Have you tried a VPN to a UK Server... I travel extensively and that's what I use to get through all the blocking .. especially China. I have switched to Express VPN... seems to work very well and the connection is as fast as the local internet.. previous ones were very slow.. About £80 a year.. but you can take out shorter packages as a trial.. I think it was £10 for 1 month.... need to set it up in a non restricted zone... Allows you to log in as UK / French / German / USA etc... so you can view all local stuff too..
VPN is your friend. I use CyberGhost and choose to have UK hosted only for routing. Mine was $99 for 3 years on a discount day
Yes Paul, I have (and use) VPN but these oil companies have fancy ass firewalls with filters and it's very restrictive of what I can access. I can do it with wifi here but its a PITA. I won't bore you.
