This thread is getting a little 'Four Lions' Which I would recommend to those who haven't already seen it.
I was in the Boy Scouts and because on my blonde hair, blue eyes and Nordic ancestry narrowly missed (by 13 years) selection for the Hitler Youth
News today that an arrest has been made in connection with the attack in London, at a house at the top of my road. Bit close for comfort :/
Yesterday was an exceptionally excellent day for burying news, wasn't it? I wonder what unwelcome reports, poor statistics, unpopular cuts, and negative announcements were slipped out unnoticed while the media was 100% focussed on the Westminster attack?
It seems all they're focused on is the attack. Part of me understands why, and I sincerely don't want this to sound disrespectful, but such news coverage and analysis is playing straight in to the hands of isis. It's a tough one, but our news stations / outlets haven't let up for 5 minutes so what do you do?
Potentially all big news storys could be used as a cover for such cloak and dagger drama. But not being too paranoid, I think ill go with the flow on this.
We don't know yet. Maybe buried news will come to light later, maybe not. The searchlight moves on to something new.
Pc Palmers funeral Monday, I knew him, worked same station for years Going to be good turn out from the countries police services I hear
I do wish we could stop using the term terrorism though - or just terror as the BBC now likes to say. We need a new word. Can't say I find any of this terrifying, just low and cowardly and weak. I'm not quaking in my boots and I don't feel any fear just contempt for these oafs and their miserable and backward dependence on religion and I imagine most people feel the same. They don't inspire fear, just disgust.
How about we call it 'Another murderous act from religious psychopaths who want to destroy western culture and replace it with their version of 'truth' whilst all the time getting as many freebies and benefits from the society they are trying to destroy'? It's a bit of a mouthful but descriptive.
I agree completely with this. A "terrorist" is now just any insurgent, anywhere who doesn't agree with the regime in place. Assad refers to all the people fighting him as "terrorists" The Westminster attack wasn't carried out by a terrorist. It was carried out by a murderous thug who got loosely interested in Islam as a way of trying to create an identity for himself. He was just a saddo, not a soldier for an international cause. The media in general is obsessed with terrorism, whereas people really have far more to fear from road traffic or diabetes. Those are the things that might get them, not some weird bearded people. But then diabetes is a lot less exciting than "terrorism" isn't it?
