I have an Enduristan Sandstorm tank bag. 100% waterproof. Attaches by Rockstraps and a harness, not a ring mount, so a bit of a faff when refueling but having a dependably waterproof bag is a boon, especially when used on a bike with no screen.
Yer the sw motech bag has been great for the most part but because I can't attach that to the tank it goes on the tail, and unfortunately water from the rear wheel gets into it from underneath which is a bugger. I have a waterproof roll top hip bag, 2 litres which i kept my documents in so that lot stayed dry. Just thinking of a cheaper solution that would be easier to carry what I want and waterproof. And it seems so far that im having luck with watersport luggage (which is cheaper) than motorcycle specific waterproof luggage. I dont mind the extra faff of rokstraps myself. What drew me to the sw motech bag was it could be locked to the bike and the zip also locked, plus can be carried and is waterproof. But that last bit has failed for me. Edit: also a lot of road debris gets up into the magnet fitting and can become stuck permanently to the bike so that needs attention any time you get caught in rain.
Refurbished my 916 petrol cap - the original paint wasn’t great & the alloy was lightly pitted. Completely disassembled, paint stripped, scotchpad everything, etch primer, Bronzo Opaco base cost (aluminium silver engine paint a perfect match for the outer ring), several coats of petrol resistant matt lacquer. Hardest part was removing the two roll pins holding the cap to the outer frame, as they cannot be pressed through, so I used some heat and a sharp pick to lever them out using the roll pin slot for purchase. Pressing back in was no problem though.
I use an Oxford roll top bag strapped to the rear seat, 100% water proof, need to get better straps for it tho as it keeps moving. It’s a faff to fit. My panniers are Ducati (Givi) and clip on with a key, much easier but not water proof, I use roll top ruck sack liners, work well. It would just be better if it didn’t rain when on tour!
I was just looking at one of those. Im not entirely sure what I will do just yet but I do know its a cheap option that works (the northcore bags and rokstraps) but for the smaller 10L bag I think ill need some small bags such as a roll bag for the tools and what not. Otherwise it becomes a game of pulling it all out all the time to find what you want. +1 for sunshine tours
