(small) Bike Things You've Done Today

  1. Just be careful putting too much load on the bolts, the bottom of the forks can crack in this area. Usually because the clamp bolts have been overtightened but its still a weak point.

  2. Since my return to motorcycling I have generally been very impressed with the maturity and courtesy of bikers but have to say that last Saturday on my return from Rykers I could not believe how some of the lads were riding amongst heavy traffic. They were clearly skilled but on hugely powerful bikes and I couldn't help thinking that an accident is waiting to happen.

  3. That's a very pertinent point and one that I hadn't considered. I shall endeavour to come up with a plan B failsafe perhaps in the form of a cable from the rafter. Thank you.

  4. I should have added that the bolts are threaded right through the fork so the force is not actually just on the outer quadrant but on the entire fork. It was just necessary to get the vertical bar of the paddock stand away from the line of the axle.

  5. Fitted a Ducabike rear brake pedal extension on my multistrada as you need to be a ballerina to press the brake enough to hold it on a slope .

  6. A common or garden ladder over your bike and a few tiedown straps works well.

This vid shows a Grom, but I've done this on much heavier bikes, without issue mainly using hooks
