I think for driving Morzine (Portes du Soliel) is probably the closest big resort but it is still a hike. Never done the driving thing myself due to the time it takes, I've been trying to organise a weekend trip the past few years but flights don't really work for that either - need to bite the bullet and do 7 days if I could only get permission
