So what have you done today..?

  1. But I'm not there ;)

  2. Oberon clutch slave and -0.5mm from the stack and a nice service has my slipper clutch feeling sweet. Combined with CJS's craftsmanship on the ECU and I am in love with my bike. In the evening sun, cleaned and polished she looks sweet. 1198 rocks.

  3. I took my barrel of fermented plums to the distillery on Thursday. That should be converted into about 7 litres of plum schnapps, if I'm lucky. The distiller told me that my barrel of chopped apples should be kept at about 20°C but at least 10°C or the yeasts become unhappy. Well, it isn't 10°C at night in my barn these days, so I have brought it inside which seems to have given it a boost. That'll be off to the distiller too in about a fortnight. What with the 10 litres of kirsch I already have, I should end up with about 30 odd bottles of booze at 43%. I might not try drinking all of it immediately.

Got in the carrot harvest today. Washed and dried them and put all the sizeable ones in sawdust for winter keeping. Also put my potato harvest in sawdust ditto. Had micro carrots and spuds with the roast chicken this eve: sound.

  4. Presume the sawdust reduces deterioration?
    Hadn't heard of that before.

  5. Me and the wife went to see a marriage guidance counsellor today.

"He suffers from premature ejaculation" my wife told her.

"Is this true ?" the counsellor asked.

"Not really " I replied. "It's her that suffers, not me"

  6. I sent my wife to do the Christmas shopping today. She came back with :-
    4 bottles of whisky
    4 bottles of gin
    2 bottles of brandy
    2 bottles of vodka
    6 crates of lager
    12 bottles of wine
    2 loaves of bread

"Are we having a party ?" I asked

    "No" she replied

"Well then, why have you bought 2 loaves of bread ?"

  7. Today the tumble dryer died, the only appliance I bothered to buy an extended warranty on, thank goodness as this is the third time in less then three years I have had to call an engineer out, Mel got the lawnmower out to find mice have chewed the rubber on the handle and the rubber over the fuel primer so it won't start. Drove to Weston Super Mare, two different vehicles tried to kill me by overtaking on Burrington Coombe towards me as I headed down it, for the second one both I and the vehicle being overtaken had to brake very hard to a halt to avoid an accident...prats. Then on the way home white van man on phone decided he wasn't going to wait for me to pass a long line of parked cars, basically he wasn't paying attention, prat! Can't walk the dog because of fireworks. Other than that a good day!

  8. Just back from the Steve Hackett gig. Utterly wonderful. Spotted Steven Wilson in a nearby seat but left him in peace. Got chatted up by a lovely woman who turned out to be Hackett's mum. Result :)

  9. Just been to see Midge Ure. He was good and played lots of well known songs, all acousticly. He would have been great if he'd played with a band though.

However he did finish with "Do they know its Christmas" which did lift the whole venue!

  11. Ure broke Ultravox. Bastard.

    That is all.

  12. Yes, sawdust is ideal for the carrots: Keeps them insulated from frost and cold (or excessive heat I assume, were you to keep them in your house). Also keeps the damp off them and in the dark. Put in a layer of sawdust, place the carrots on it so that they aren't touching, then add another layer of sawdust, another layer of carrots. Etc.

I'm not sure it is necessary for potatoes, but seeing as I have a huge bag of it from my cabinet-making friend (who is only too keen to get rid of it), I thought I may as well use some more. It can't do any harm. My barn will probably freeze at some point this winter.

  15. I said to the wife this morning "I was reading in a scientific magazine last week, that blades of grass actually feel pain - amazing isn't it ?"

"Nice try dumbbell, now get that lawnmower out and cut the lawn"

  16. you are lucky,, I have two bikes in the house but not a decent mountain or forest within an hours drive !! that is a small front cog you are running there

  17. I'm getting worried. This is somewhat like the more berries one seems on bushes in autumn, the worse winter is going to be.

The more home made spirits you put in store, the worse my fears are for this coming winter.

Is an ice age forecast? Is there a storm coming?

  18. I love living where I do, I have wales over the river, the mendips, the quantocks and the cotswold hills all within an hour!
With the larger 29" wheels you don't need a big ring, it runs a 2 x 10 from the factory and I didn't feel like I was missing any gears

  20. Rode back from Kent just now, through the monsoon season.
As it got darker, I suddenly remembered that I hadn't put fresh fireflies into the headlamp unit on my 750. The existing ones were nearly dead, judging by how much light they were putting out.

    FFS.
