Socket For Belt Tensioner Pulleys

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by mary hinge horse burger, Feb 28, 2020.

  1. Anyone know of a cheaper alternative (less than £50) for this tool?
Ducati tool 88713.1821 for removal/installation of timing belt idler & tensioner studs.
£50 is a bit rich for a one off job.
Or has anyone got a used one they would like to part with?

  2. Try laser tools, they do Ducati tools.

  3. I've tried Laser, not listed. I would use a spanner but I'm OCD about torquing things back up.

  4. When was your torque wrench last calibrated?

  5. 6 months ago, I have a man on the inside. I use Beta clickers, love 'em.

  6. well , there's always the option this strange gizmo ....
.... it claims to let you put a torque wrench on more-or-less any spanner :-

  9. Can you do a drawing for what you need?

  10. Surely coming away from the centre of the nut/bolt to be torqued would be a false reading ie over torquing ?

  11. No.....just an old socket, a hacksaw and a file.

All you need is the other type of socket with six flats that has the correct dimension across two flats......Cut out the four flats that aren't needed.

Much easier to make than my one........because you could use a grinder.

  13. Nice job Al, I’ve made several similar items over the years, they’ve all worked well but looked wanky, yours is a work of art! :)

  14. Sod how it looks ..... if it gets the job done it's a win-win-win situation .

1] You've paid yourself the cost of the tool
2] You don't have to wait for it to arrive to get on with the job
3] The sheer satisfaction of " knocking it up in yer shed "

    I keep saying I'll start a thread on home-made Ducati tools .
Looking at the weather , this weekend might get me motivated .... :)

PS - Yes , very neat work from Al !
