Special Cars...

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Exige, Jan 8, 2019.

  1. My first ever car at 18 was an older model V8 SD1, cost me about £1100 I think. Went to the British GP (Bikes) with a full double bed mattress in the back with the back seat folded down and was let into the camping for free as the guy on the gate said me and the girlfriend weren't actually camping

  2. Can you imagine trying to insure a V8 anything nowadays at 18?

  3. I had a Z1000 Kawasaki at 17 and turbocharged it a year later while working at the now defunct York Glassworks, had the header pipes made in the mould shop :eyes:

  6. Quite a few of my mates had these, quite common at the time. Also, quite common at the time was rust, which saw more than a few of these into the grave. The Executive model was maybe the best one to have. There is also a coupe but might only be prototype models...

  8. Sorry mate, it went within hours of advertising - probably could have got more for it but hey ho new owner can finish it and enjoy :upyeah:

  9. Still on the lookout for a project. Keep me in the loop if you hear of anything

  10. I think full group 4 works spec had them with 2.4 litre engine and twin 48 DCOE's pushing nearer 280 bhp :bucktooth:
I think Ford works team were still entering them in group B in 1985.......

  11. No worries, if I hear anything I'll give you a shout :upyeah:

  12. Never seen a 2.4 litre engine. That would be interesting. Yes they were still entering in Group B. Escorts had a good run in all aspects of rallying/Group racing. That’s what makes a great car.
My 1600 Mexico was such fun, great handling but lacked a bit of power Janspeed exhaust sounded wonderful.

  13. I think the works cars went to the limit at 2.4 in terms of the Group B rules :upyeah:
They actually sold 2.0 litre MK11 Mexico's from the factory as an option (old school sleeper :))
I had a single box Peco system on mine and - yes, what a great noise :D
I think we may have started a Fast Ford thread here.... :bucktooth:

  16. Fine by me. Love talking old Fords. I’ve had a few, actually loads
First car at 17 was MK 3 cortina GXL, which the old man bought for £50, mot failure. Fixed it for £25, washed, polished it back to life, 12 months of trouble free motoring.
Followed by a mk 2 Lotus Cortina, paid £900 in 1985, sold it for £1500 six months later. I felt rich.
Another Mexico, followed by 1965 Mini Cooper S. Then a Mk 2 Mexico.
Since then I have owned M3’s amongst other German exotica, but nothing stops me in my tracks more than an old school Ford.
Will dig out a few pics later.
