Hi there, I have stripped down the flywheel side to investigate a starting issue (the dreaded whirrrrrrr!) Sprag engagement surfaces are ok, but is clear that the sprag clutch circumference spring is shot. I purchased an SKF shaft seal (skf 19778) but it turns out the cross-section of the spring is too large (overall diameter is good though)... So..does anyone have an skf code that is the right one? Cheers Grant
If you can`t find the correct seal then this could be another option https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUCATI-S...h=item3d8009a88e:g:DY4AAOxyyq5TLFEP:rk:1:pf:0 I replaced the sprag spring on my 749 with one of these in 2014 and it`s still ok, no issues what so ever. I`m sure it`s the right one but message him and check it fits.
Hi Mike! Cheers for the spring..sorted the bike (together with Exige's starter cables)..did a marathon 10 hour assembly and was running the next day! For anyone thinking about redoing their sprag, be aware it is possible to catch the issue early and only replace the circumference spring.. I gave the gear faces a run over with 2000 grit, there was no scoring (grooves) more like a surface polish that was showing where the sprag teeth were engaging..A whole lot cheaper than a new sprag and starter gear! Cheers Grant
