St4s Help Needed - No Lights, No Start!

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by CorkyCaw, Aug 18, 2024.

  1. Disaster struck last weekend gents! I was enjoying a lovely ride out when the bike stalled and just wouldn't restart! On pressing the start button, everything is dead, no lights on the dash…nothing! And to top it off, a huge gust of wind blew it over causing panel damage . It took 6 hours waiting for the RAC to get back home!

After removing all the panels, all connectors etc look intact. The immobiliser light on the dash flashes as normal. When the key is inserted and turned to ON, the lights flashes once then stays on steady. There are no other lights on the dash...nothing. A friend tried plugging into the ECU with his diagnostic gear but no power is showing to the ECU (does the immobiliser prevent it?). Is a re-flash of the ECU required to disable the immobiliser?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at my wits end!

  2. Is battery flat? I had to do the regulator and generator on mine. It was very temperamental

  3. Ie if they are buggered and not charging battery it does as you describe

  4. The battery is always kept on an Optimate charger when not in use. The bike was running then as I set off, it just stalled and was dead after that. But thanks and I'll try and check if power is getting through from the battery.

  5. If reg not charger or stator (?) busted it will run til the battery is dead as not charging. Check battery first before you optimate it again

  6. The battery is most likely dead. It can happen even if it’s kept on a battery tender; the tender can fail or the battery can fail.

Get a multimeter and check the battery voltage at the terminals, should be 12.5v ish. If not then try and charge it again. Measure the voltage when the charger is connected, should be about 14.2v. If not then likely the charger/tender is kaput.

Fit a new fully charged battery and then go from there.
