no, the code I had didn't work, which is the main reason for changing it out. Wiring diagram suggests I'm right though, but like Ducati, Porcshe seem to change things but no one ever knows! #binpartspecials
Been a while since i messed around with car stereo's but you say you are waiting for a aerial adaptor, back in the day the aerial connection formed part of the earth for the unit ?
a plug could of become disconnected behind the dash somewhere i suppose, you can check the speaker circuits with your multimeter or with a 9v calculator battery, assuming it has four speakers the pairing of the wires for the speakers should be pretty obvious on the 8pin plug at the stereo connector . your looking for 4ohms? from each circuit, or using the calk battery to make the speakers click by powering each circuit.
On my BM, if you use the steering wheel controls the volume increases quite rapidly but if you've turned the unit off with the knob and then use the knob to turn it back on and the turn the volume up, you have to turn it loads, not just a quarter of a turn as you'd expect.
Did you have sound with the previous unit ?has the steering wheel been changed ?. Process of elimination, a continuity test from the speaker to the plug at the stero end, got to be somthing simple or a faulty unit.
previous wouldn't work as i didnt have the code to unlock. Hoping something simple. I suspect (there us a lot if after market wire under the bonnet) there was another system fitted and they took out and out std back when sold. So could easily be they have adapted the wiring and had an amp but its no longer there (bastard!) or not fitted all the connectors and when I dig a bit further in I find it.
Test for continuity between ends of speaker cables? Could well have been an amp in between somewhere. Under seat or in boot??
As a general rule if a amp was fitted in the past the speaker wires would go direct to the amp, so at a guess it may have upgraded speakers with new cables routed to where the amp was fixed, best have a look at what type of cable comes off a speaker and see if it matches the cable at the connector by the head unit.
Right, stopped raining so will be out having another look. Need to find if they have put an amp in it, somewhere (there isn't anywhere to hide it!) and if I have another connector. If no and no I'll have to get a specialist to look at it. Vant test continuity as both multi meters I have dont have that setting (!)
i changed my Porsche branded Radio in the boxster In the Boxster the Amp and Multi changer were bolted to the bulkhead inside the front boot behind the sparewheel the loom i had from Halfords had a mass of wires most of which were not relevant and removed
Funny enough, what I though was a changer looks like its an amp. And these are all the wires available. Need to find a mobile technician I think!
It doesn't beep, neither do. Think it may be a different unit was swapped when sold (another fucking small issue thats a big one on this car!!!!) and suspect the wiring hasn't been put back correctly.
