1198 Strange Clunking

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Pavey, Aug 14, 2017.

  1. Heard a strange clunking on the way home tonight, coming from (i believe) around the front cylinder area. Was a metal on metal sound, but with my lid on and earplugs in sounded like rain hitting the roof of a caravan.

When i went to leave work the battery was only showing 12 volts and flashing, but luckily it fired up. Could be related or pure coincidence?

  2. Could you feel the knocking? - if so, I would look at flywheel - nut may be loose (not the one on the handlebars)

I'm associating it with the battery voltage being low.

  3. I know it was running but had similar on my 998. Check starter sprag and flywheel gear and starter motor cog.

  4. I've had big problems with them before too, all very coincidental. Is probably them.

Did something of yours detach itself?
