Streetfighter 848 To 1098 Conversion

  1. The thread is 6 months old, so I guess you've done whatever it is that you decided to do, but....there's resale as well. If I looked to buy an 848 or 1098 Streetfighter and saw an 848 with a 1098 top end on it, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. It will be worth a lot less than either standard bike after you spunk a shed load of cash on it.

  2. Unfortunately no I haven't done it yet, have had to spend some money on the house which means no spare cash to do any mods :(
TBH I don't think I would ever get rid of the SF 848.
Not sure if the 1098 geometry is the same as the 848, and I think the handling on the 848 SF is so sublime and we get on so well hence why I wanted more power from that.

  3. I'm pretty sure 848 have less rake and trail than the 1098s. But with the extra power of the 1098 you might find you had something very twitchy with a 1098 in a 848 chassis. Since my previous posts on this thread I've had my 1098's suspension upgraded. Mine was a standard bike with showa springy bits. Its now got Ohlins TTX on the back and the same forks with K-Tech piston kits up front. And its been professionally set up. The forks have been lifted in the yokes by 10 mm and he altered the rear ride height adjuster. Don't ask me from what to where though.. The result is sublime handling. It has lost none of its trade mark Ducati stability but the under-steering stubbornness and tendency to sit up on the brakes has gone completely. Its light and flickable but totally steadfast until you want it to turn. It still does a little shimmy and wags its bars slightly when the front tyre leaves the deck at triple figure speeds buts its completely predictable and not remotely alarming. Just adds to the exhilaration. But I wouldn't want it any more flighty.
From my experience, then, I would say leave the 1098 chassis geometry alone but ensure your suspension is tip-top and get it set up properly.

  4. Well, my 1098 Streetfighter S feels sublime to me. It's my favourite bike because of the way it handles and the addictive grunt. I've never cocked my leg over an 848, so can't comment.

  5. The 848 has difference bars as well. The riding position is quite a lot more relaxed than the 1098.
