From Motorcycle Classics. " .... One of only 67 built, a “never raced” Ducati Supermono fetched $115,000" This was at the Bonhams auction in Las Vegas on Jan 24 2019. Anybody got one?
Ducati Supermono The Ducati Supermono is a lightweight, single-cylinder racing motorcycle made by Ducati. It is named for the Supermono racing class. The Supermono is arguably one of the most collectable Ducatis in any era. Only 65 Supermonos were built by Ducati between 1993 and 1995.Wikipedia Manufacturerucati Production:1993-1997 (65 built 93'-95', 2 built 96'-97') Total 67 Engine:549/572 cc 4-valve desmodromic single, 12:1 compression ratio, Weber fuel injection, bore x stroke: 100 mm x 70 mm Discuss. More desirable than 851/888 sp's etc? Or just rarer?
Good article from 2007 in Cycle World: https://www.cycleworld.com/2007/09/17/cw-classics-ducati-supermono-first-look/ Sounds like a blast to ride.
Proper RG500 ( the racing one)weighs about 110 kg from memory and makes quite a lot more power than a superlight. I'd still like to have a go on a superlight though.
I was curious so I looked it up! Bazzer RG's are: Suzuki RG500 XR14 Engine: 497cc liquid-cooled rotary valve 2-stroke -101hp @ 11,200rpm Vs Supermono 75hp at 10,000rpm Top speed: 175mph Weight: 297lb (135kg) Vs Supermono Weight 118kg Riding either must be something very special, though I think the one with the number 7 would be my first pick!
Can confirm the RG is a real blast, sadly never got to try it on track but a mate let take his one for quick spin down the road and back.
Some really good first hand reporting on Neil Spalding's website, head to the bottom of the page for the Supermono section ... http://www.sigmaperformance.com/racing.htm
