Tax Avoidance - What Are Your Thoughts?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by West Cork Paul, Mar 16, 2019.

  1. was in not Russia who introduced a flat rate across the board @ 13% and they collected more tax because people didn't try and get out of paying it?

  2. The easiest way to avoid paying tax is...............

    ............don't do any work.

  3. Transaction taxes don’t work as they can transfer it to the customer easily - see VAT.

Successive Governments have turned a blind eye to the use of royalty payments to transfer profits elsewhere. Try that if you are a small business and Hmrc would be quick to say it’s not a legitimate expense. One rule for the wealthy, another for everyone else.

Offshore tax havens can never be justified. It’s a way of hiding wealth. They do not even have to produce annual accounts.

  4. It is. I threw it into the mix as some were intimating ALL tax avoidance was immoral whereas we're now at the stage were only some tax avoidance is immoral. The question this leads to is where does one draw the line?

  5. I don't know, Did they? Interesting info if it's true. I'm going check.

  6. Not quite, one will still get taxed on one's state pension and any benefits one receives

  7. But how do we close them down?

  8. I think they use the same strategy in Singapore.

  9. State pension is lower than the tax allowance.
I currently pay no (income) tax.

  10. Another tax evader. Sickening.

  11. Since many of them are in British crown dependencies, it shouldn't be difficult with legislation.

Since many of the donors to the main Party in power are some of the worst offenders, then i wouldn't hold your breath.

  13. See what Old Rider says below and certain benefits are tax exempt.

Agreed - I don't pay tax either. But I have paid a fortune in tax over the years I worked.

  14. I'd prefer a change in government to a party that espouses the socialism of Venezuela and Cuba. All our concerns would be put clearly into focus.

  17. Correct, but if you had other income you might trip the threshold. @Arquebus was suggesting just not to work, and before I'm swamped with abuse I know it was in jest :)

  18. Actually you can earn £1000 in one year more than the allowance which is tax free if you do some self employed work - it is called trading allowance.
