Driving in a convoy? Breaker breaker rubber duck, would that only be bikes fitted with CB radios? How on earth could it be proved you were in a ‘convoy’ as you leave the car park rather than just riding in the same direction as others? I do get it a little bit though, the rice burner gixer gangs with tiny gp style straight through exhausts and the leather waist coat wearing chapters with their screaming sparrows exhausts spanking it up the dual carriageway must be a little irritating all day long on a Sunday.
it will be interesting to watch police reaction when a gaggle of motorcyclists just happened to leave at the same time, utterly ridiculous. Also, it will be dangerous to police parts of the Mickleham Area. Let's just hope it doesn't set a precedent, although unlikely considering the cost of the "exercise". As you say though Shaun, it will hopefully stop people revving needlessly and similar. Just when I thought we had survived "1984"...
I find the AI summary first bullet point somewhat threatening. It intimates to me, if the antisocial behaviour is unaffected by the PSPO, the council could revoke the current owner’s of Ryka’s cafe lease …. or is that being a little melodramatic Andy
Sorry Andy, the bit you quoted is AI, but I don't find it at all threatening personally. Maybe you meant the first two posts that I did on the subject today? They are from the BBC! They could of course, also be AI but there's nothing there to confirm this.
Nothing to apologise for Chris I have no sympathy for the antisocial (I’ve got enough of them as neighbours) but the small scale power held by the voice of a few, over the lives of the many is depressing. Anyone who has still has an outdated and outmoded Parish Council will understand Andy
** It's probably an age thing, but still confused by Andy's comment on a quoted piece from me. Rykas does still operate under a lease from SCC, and this was evident during the previous "owner's" time (Mike) when SCC found it convenient to use the car park to dum.. store tools, equipment and aggregate during work to overcome future flooding from the Mole. The "stuff" remained there for weeks, possibly months after the work was finished and Mike had no say in this. **The chap is very approachable and have talked to him on several occasions, sometimes down the pub.
Well if you should see him, and feel like asking him his thoughts on the new regulations, I'd be interested to read his response.
The subject came up in a convo with same last year, but i already know any response would be off the record because of the "DIYD/DIYD" connundrum.
Ah, my brain in gear and the penny has dropped. The way the AI worded its response to the question, the concern that popped into my mind was, should the PSPO fail to deliver the desired effect over the 3 years it is in place, would the Council restrict or worst case, cancel the cafe’s lease ? My apologies for causing confusion Andy
So reading what the PSPO is saying the police have the powers to... do everything they already have the power to do. The only odd one and completely nonsense one is CONVOY. I suppose the police already have the powers to stop an "unlawful" gathering, or they could apply driving dangerously I suppose ? so you could technically argue that's nothing new either... It all seems to be rather like a political signposting affair ? Anyone actually able to explain what is different ?
This is not the first time the term "convoy" has raised its ugly head. My memory is telling me, it is a term specific to car cruising/car meets. I ran into a motorcycle social ride on Sunday, maybe 20 riders who sort of rolled onto the carpark over a period of 10 minutes. Not sure I'd describe them as a convoy Andy
I would advise you to phone the Police for the best interpretation. Although i agree it's not clear, i think i know roughly how this will roll out from past experience, but not in a hurry to be a scapegoat on here by volunteering in words.
