So I finally made it to the Ace Cafe in Lahti Finland today.... And to say I was hugely impressed,is an understatement. As the husband and wife team went above and beyond for a truly warm welcome... But,as previously promised.......... A piccy each of both bike and burger !!!
With a cheeky glass of vino in hand at 9pm last night,I kind of come to the conclusion that I really need a plan of action for the morning, and the trip ahead. So I initially loved the idea, and looked at the thought of heading north, and potentially doing the up and over back into Sweden..... But with this,Finland is pretty much a ghost town, with most of the population choosing to live in Helsinki..... But then the thought of empty roads, stunning countryside, and butter smooth tarmac, reignited my dreams of why I originally got into all things on two wheels.... But alas.....The idea of pesky automated filling stations, the over conservative speed limits, and the chance of the local constabulary jumping out on me (which I had been warned of....... threw a cast of doubt, and a huge spanner into the works....... So with this, another ferry....... As all roads are heading South !!
It's officiall,we are all moving to Estonia !!! As a journey I took from Tallinn, down to the border of Latvia,I could see zero speed cameras AND zero police, and the beer was cheap..... Win Win !!! But if you get the chance,Tallinn old town is absolutely stunning, and a must see place to visit...... Also talking of the border,an easy route out of Estonia, would have been to travel due South past Riga.... But I wanted to stop at an old border crossing, where a town is literally split in half, one side Estonia (Valga) The other half is in Latvia (Valka) Even by today's standards,it looked eerie as hell, and the locals looked bemused as I took photos and videos, and just stood in awe lol But was planning on visiting Vilnuis today,as according to Google, there is a motorbike hangout every Saturday (Kava Tau) where you can watch the gorgeous sunset surrounded by like minded people. But as heavy rain was expected, and the fact that Booking.com,had upped the cost of the room I had been watching in Vilnuis, from €79 to €122,this all got cancelled with a heavy heart.... As I now find myself sat in a cheap hotel, outside of Marijampole, wondering if my bike will still be there in the morning lol But the good news is... More rain is due,and im not camping !!! Although im just about to dive into a Costa coffee, and a Real Turmat (if you know, you know)
