  2. Al, I am going stick my neck out again and say a Francis Barnett with an AMC single engine possibly a 225cc, I thought they all had Villiers engines but a google search shows the latter bikes had the AMC engines.
    Steve

My brother had a Fanny Barnett with a Villiers 250 twin engine and I had a home built Indian Brave frame with a Villiers 250 twin from a crashed James fitted.

  3. Nearly right Birdie - it is a Fanny Barnett Cruiser 80 which had a 250cc AMC single cylinder engine. But this one had a massive seize up and the bore was badly damaged, so a local clever engineer mate managed to use an Alvis cylinder liner which he ported to more or less the original ports and found a Jaguar piston which had enough meat on it for porting and shaping the piston crown. It was actually 280cc when he finished re-assembly. Re-jetting the Amal carb was easy, albeit it always ran a bit rich, hence we stuck on that ridiculous exhaust which had no back pressure.

According to the speedo it would do about 110mph.
