Yes, and it's the painting that makes the final model. It is a bit annoying when you need a pot of paint for a tiny area though
As Above , but once completed its quite satisfying, one thing i would recommend though is a perspex show case, keeping them dust free if out in open display is not easy.
Yes Yes if you're handy with an brush/ airbrush not so much. Lots of stuff on YouTube, you can go deep into a build and by 3rd party modifications for the exact model you want build. The paint will cost you more than the kit, the list is extensive for the paint. This scale modeller did a part 1 but hasn't uploaded the second part and it's been a very long time since he started.
You could just build the kit as it comes out the box without the painting part. The clip I posted is an extreme example of a builder that's after many years of practice. Not sure of your Son's age but I started my Son off on Lego Technic kits. Helicopter kit was the largest and the Ducati Panigale the simplest.
Oh wow, isn’t it strange the stuff that has a sudden and unexpected emotional impact when you see it. When my father was really unwell 30yrs ago I brought him the MHR model to keep him occupied. He started really well, and wanted to do a great job, but struggled to do it to the standard he wanted. He was ½ way through when he went into hospital for an operation and didn’t survive the anaesthetic. I can still see the ½ built model sat on his desk gathering dust, my mother wouldn’t let me touch it for months and certainly didn’t want me to finish it. It had disappeared one time when I went to visit and I didn’t ever ask what happened to it. And I don’t remember seeing it when we cleared the house after losing my Mother a few years ago.
