Get a 998, seems equal amount of SP's on the market as there are biposto's? Then you need to be sure it's a genuine SP. Sorry but I'm sceptical about some ads, like gunmetal 748 Senna's etc.
You are correct on the bottom end having a light crank and rods but I believe the 996s has only one crank pick up, different heads and different cams.
[Though it's worth checking it doesn't invalidate your house insurance, which some have found. Looks ruddy marvellous mind.]
