Tightening Primary Gear

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by james bazel, May 22, 2020.

  1. I have a 2008 ducati 1098 that I am putting back together and I need to tighten the primary gear but I don't have the holding tool, my question is has anyone just used the flywheel holding tool to tighten the primary gear and is it safe to do so. I don't want to use the penny trick or jam something in the gears for fear of causing damage to the gears. Thanks

  2. I did an S4 a couple of years ago and used the flywheel tool for tightening the drive side nut. I can't see a problem, you just mount the flywheel first.

  3. Thanks , I'm trying to put this motor back together and with all of the special tools needed it can start to get expensive.

  4. Stick a penny in the mesh!

  6. Works like a charm. Doesn't hurt anything.

  7. thanks , but I think I'll just try the flywheel holder and see how that works out.

  8. Only potential problem is that the load goes through the crankshaft and crankshaft breakages are not unheard of, particulary Testastretta...
