  2. I think the buyer paid two lots of deposits as he was very keen on having it until he saw baines racing and then chose to delve deeper using that as the reason not to buy
For some reason after giving not one but two deposits got a little nasty
    That’s my take on it

  3. Maybe, he got so hung up on the bike being a worthless restricted Swiss or French import as he read that blog from the motorcycle broker that said many were French restricted imports and panicked. When he came to my house he literally said my bike was worthless as it’s an import from France or Switzerland. laughable, unfounded, incorrect.
The bike checks out, I’ve done very thorough research, Nelly kindly did a check on his records for me and summarised it’s a full power European spec none French/Swiss model.

  4. There’s something odd going on isn’t there or am I just a suspicious woman

  5. Oh yes definately something odd going on!

I class myself as a relatively knowledgable long term Ducati enthusiast, I’m pretty resourceful, thorough and probably bit over anal about things. I’ve done my research on the bike, contacted its original owner, spoke to anyone who ever worked on the bike such as snells and a couple of independants, Ducati bologna, Nelly etc all to get a clear picture of the bikes history. Honestly, there is nothing wrong. Everything all there, original books from new, sold from new by a renowned specialist, HPI clear etc etc etc.

My take on it, and this is just my take is that the buyer buyer wanted to invest his pension rather than sit it in the bank which is a good idea. Being a bike enthusiast, sees that a 916sps is a good place to put your money given its a homologation special with race pedigree etc. Bought it and wasn’t overly confident on what he was doing as it can be a bit of a minefield with special Ducati’s (look how many are advertised as SP/S and actually aren’t). Did some further research, shit himself, panicked and backed out.

He had already openly told me that he had enquires aboutvthe other one on eBay and made arrangements to view but backed out.

But now what’s done is done, I’m done with it, time to move on!

  7. So frustrated reading all these posts, the honourable thing to do from this potential buyer is give the seller (a) an apology and (b) a gesture involving money, then move on, in future do your job right as you will not always get someone as decent as this particular seller, do the right thing, you were and are out of order, you went round a fellas house with his kids in bed demanding a return of a deposit that you placed by your own incompetence, you are obviously after a Ducati as investment, people will be aware and on guard after reading this thread so I think your money making plan might be up against it, and to top it all you snatched defeat from the Jaws of victory as you had secured a great bike ....you couldn’t make it up :joy:

As a way of helping I can offer an 1198 for 11k ;)

  9. Not sure what sort of figures we’re talking about here ref deposits etc but this happened earlier today, wife committed to buy a mountain bike on eBay for £60 this morning, this afternoon I went to help a biker mate fettle his triumph at the end of our close , noticed he had a mountain bike in his garage, agreed on £40, wife rang eBay seller and agreed to PayPal him a tenner for his inconvenience in her cancelling the eBay purchase, wow talk about high finance wheeler dealing!!!

  10. Yes, shit happens and circumstances change. I’ve done it, paid 250 for a deposit on a car and changed my mind the next day as something else popped up. I rang the guy, was totally honest and said I was going to buy a different one and really sorry for wasting his time and said to keep the deposit.

In life things change, whether it be accidentally or not, but it’s how we deal with one an other that sets people apart.

  13. Ha ha - Tony, just read this from start to finish. And as someone who has dealt with you and purchased a bike from you in the past i think you have done the right thing.
I have bought and sold lots of bikes over the years (admittedly bought more) and had no issues with buyers or dealing with people.
To be fair, i can sound people out fairly quickly and anyone i suspect is a little highly strung or less than enthusiastic, uses txt speak, i simply don't deal with.
In your situation & reading between the lines here i suspect he had buyers regret, and decided to back out thus trying to recoup his deposit.
The fact he got aggressive and threatening - and knowing you fairly well, just handing it back and cutting your losses was wise.

If the prospective buyer does read this - sir you are a fucking cock socket. you were doing fine until you got threatening.
If you had tried that stunt with most others i am sure you would have been shown the door the hard way !

Anyway it looks a lovely example Tony, no i don't want to buy it. that said i am not really gelling with the 749R so that and a couple of others i have fell out of love with could well be for sale soon. so who knows..... (and no the RD350 is not one of them)
