Trivial Things People Do That Make You Disproportionately Cross

  1. People who put their kids out & leave then screaming in the garden next door early on Sunday mornings when we have blazing hangovers, then when you finally get out of bed at 10, they take them in again, fkn wankers....

  2. Amazon delivery emails. Came back from the cinema to find an Amazon package leaning up against the front door (not hidden behind the bin that was 3 feet away). Open the delivery email to see a picture of my front door with nothing in front of it & the message saying parcel left in letterbox. No it was not, you lying bar stewards, you clearly took the picture before placing the parcel there.

  3. I was under the impression minimum wages existed in this country ?

  4. In theory. In reality, if you're at the bottom end of the jobs market, it's the maximum wage. But that's price fixing for you. If you set a minimum employers must pay by law, no one ever needs to pay above it again because competition for staff is killed stone dead, and those jobs that were paid above it are leveled down to meet it when they become vacant. So multiple rungs of the ladder between the very bottom one and salaried graduate/skilled trade gets removed. And the politicians wonder why no one wants the low paid jobs now that they'll be stuck on that rate forever with no hope of internal promotion. Suddenly the cry goes up "we need immigration! No one wants to work!" Pretty obvious what would happen but apparently none of the geniuses behind the MW saw it coming and still kid themsleves that they've "lifted people out of poverty" rather than trap them in it forever.

  5. At work we have a different issue with the Minimum wage.

We compete with factories in other parts of the world, but remain loyal to our local community by carrying on manufacturing in the UK when it would be more cost effective to manufacture elsewhere, and we are always under pressure to reduce costs by group.

We have lots of people on minimum wage, but over the years people gain more skills, take on small responsibilities and get paid a bit extra.
They feel good about themselves, and it encourages those that want to, to take on more.

However, every time the minimum wage is increased by legislation you can't automatically give everyone above MW a pay rise too.
In fact our US group almost weaponize it by claiming the added cost minimises a pay increase for everyone else.

So more and more people get swallowed up into the MW bracket, including those who a week ago were earning more than their colleagues who 'do' less.
They are now earning the same as others for doing more, and are back with what some consider the stigma of being a MW employee, having risen above it once.
And guess what, they can now get paid the same to have less hassle filling shelves at Tesco, so leave.

The Superstores are a very lucrative employer for MW employees, as they'll get the same MW as working in a factory, but also up to 25% off their shopping, which effectively puts them on more than MW.

I don't pretend to know the answer, but I know it's difficult for employers to compete for good staff.

  6. I still disagree with tipping. Why is it almost socially compulsory to tip waiters, hair dressers and taxi drivers, because their on minimum wage, whilst every other MW earner isn’t considered worthy.
Anyway to avoid thread drift, that’s the last from me on the matter.

  7. Been thinking about my post above whilst driving into work,
It’s really important that everyone understands the full picture with MW employees.
I’m a bit passionate about the situation, and it worries me that there is No solution.

I’m not sure about the Pension situation or benefits at Supermarkets, but at our factory all employees are automatically enrolled into a very good pension scheme, the main benefit of which is that the company contribution to the scheme each month is Double what the employee pays, capped at 15%.
A lot of our Minimum wage employees opt-out, particularly the younger ones, as they simply see their contribution as an expense they don’t want or can’t afford, and forgo the Company contribution.
I’m sure a lot on here will see that as short sighted, and would opt to take the money from ‘The Man’.
A lot are being daft, but some simply need every penny each month to survive or stop them spiraling into debt.

The other benefit our MW employees get that I know for certain is very unusual for a MW workforce is Bupa, that they of course have to pay the tax on.
Again, many see the tax as another expense they don’t want or can’t afford so opt-out.
Actually, I wouldn’t argue that for some of the younger employees that may be a good call, but for the older ones it can be a Mad decision.

As I said, I don’t pretend to have the answers, I wish I did, but am sure most on here aren’t involved every day with that sort of workforce, and a fuller picture should be considered before commenting.

I do know that as a company we are under constant pressure to utilise workforces abroad to save costs, and not support our local community as best we can.

  8. Hardly a thread drift, by the very nature of this thread it’ll slide all over the shop.
It’s probably because one comes face to face with staff on a very personal level that might make tipping feel compulsory unlike those you don’t see or come in contact with.
I wouldn’t consider them more or less worthy it’s more a case of they are not on your horizon and therefore not as obvious
But that’s ok, oh and it’s ‘they’re’ not ‘their’
Now I’m beginning to become disproportionally cross with myself for having to correct your grammar. Damn.

  11. Angry people -follow your doctors advice: we should focus on inner peace!

To achieve this we should always finish things we start as we all could use more calm in our lives. I looked through my house to find things I'd started and hadn't finished, so I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of me valiumun srciptuns, an a box a chocletz. Yu haf no idr how blumin fablus I feel rite now. Sned this to all who need inner piss. An telum u luvum. And two hash yer wands,
