U S B Charging From 6 Volts

Discussion in 'Vintage' started by Pete1950, May 13, 2018.

  1. I have a device which plugs into the DVT Multistrada 12 volt supply with a DIN plug, and provides a USB 5 volt feed which is handy for charging phones etc on the move. But if it can step down 12v to 5v, can it step down 6v to 5v, I wondered. So just to find out I tried plugging the device into the 6 volt supply on my 450 single, to which I have just fitted a DIN socket.

What do you know - it works! My phone display shows it is being charged up via the micro-USB connector. This might be helpful to know, for those (if there are any left) who use 6 volt bikes on long journeys.

  2. I'm running a 12v system with a 6v dynamo on the Triton, just need to keep the revs up a bit but it charges OK, it's only needed for the lights and horn, the ignition is run of the magneto.
