XDiavel Upgrading Suspension

Discussion in 'Diavel & XDiavel' started by Richard8466, May 25, 2019.

  1. Hi
Main dealer says I can upgrade the suspension on my 16 X Diavel S "by purchasing a kit and inserting into the front forks and revalve (shim kit) for the shock"
This will improve the handling by 50-60%. Anyone got any ideas what he is on about, bit over my head!
    TIA

  2. X Diavel S, that's got Ohlins suspension ? Andy

  3. The out of the box suspension settings do not suit everybody (well, almost no-one) so a degree of adjustment for personal preference is highly recommended. I'd work with the stock suspension adjustment before flashing on swapping out suspension parts or replacing whole kit. Happy for you to PM me to have a chat. Andy

  4. How on earth can he say improve the Handling by 50%-60%?? what does he base this on? I guess he is a salesman right?

  5. In a roundabout way, that was what I was alluding too. Better suspension does make a difference but from personal experience working with what you've got is the first stop. Andy

  8. Currently round at my girlfriend's. I'll have a look at the manual when I get back and give you some suggestions to try. Andy

  9. @Richard8466, a quick Google shows at least 3 independent suspension set up specialists in your region (Birmingham ?) which can provide a ride in/ride out service for road bikes. A basic setup change shouldn’t cost more than about £80 and could even be less. However, if you want to have a go yourself and apart from the rear shock absorber pre load adjustment you use basic tools, the owner’s hand book gives you the original factory settings to get you back to square one if you think you have gone wrong. I’m happy to work with you using the forum PM function, if you want to have a go. One word of caution, although the Marzocchi front forks and Sachs rear shock absorber are not the most versatile suspension on the market, you should get a better setting and what your Dealer is suggesting, probably an Andreani kit, will cost about £900 just for parts. Andy

  10. Hi
Not sure how to private message!
Also there must be a new X Diavel released soon so will it have an upgraded suspension system? Does the new Diavel have one?
Might be better to wait and buy a new bike?

  11. If you click on my avatar, in the text box that pops up is ‘start conversation’, just click on that. Not sure about a new model X Diavel any time soon and no guarantee of better suspension. There is scope to improve the ride of what you’ve got, if you are unhappy with it. What is it about your ride that prompted your dealer to offer to improve it ? Andy

  12. Have had the bike for 2 years and love it, but read that the ride can be improved so am ready to tinker with it.

  13. A friend of mine has just had a stronger spring fitted to his new 1260s and he’s 19 stone.

He could have eaten less pies I guess.
