Almost describes our village, even the phonebox, sold to the parish council for one pound, is a book exchange. The pub closed about 15 years ago. Result of the pub closing is no one really knows anyone except for the people with dogs. The farmer leaves the lanes ankle deep in mud, we are not gritted so if it snows we're stuck as the village is on the side of a valley. Last winter is was five days before we could slide our way out. We also pay more council tax per band than the next village with all the amenities because the amenities we have ???? are expensive to provide to us - work that one out? However, I can walk the dog for miles off her lead, the views are outstanding, it's quiet and peaceful. My only real gripe is the broadband is rubbish. We get 0.8 mg on average. I have given up trying to watch youtube clips it's too painful. Oh, if you have children you will be the taxi because there is no bus service.
There are probably no speed cameras for miles, only part time police pressence, petrol will be expensive. Farm traffic leave the roads .......challenging escaped animals can pose as non refective mobile road blocks. Winter time ....icy roads for miles. Your Ducati will need upgraded lights, I'm in weymouth ...a Dorset town, 2 miles to the countryside and some brilliant roads.
I am lucky enough to live in the city and work in the countryside (perfect mix). Like the other said, everyone will know your business, but generally they are lovely people. Don't be tempted to go too remote (I work in North Wales and they speak a different language - you can pick it up though). Just a little bit of advice from someone who works in the agricultural sector........
