  1. Best thing I ever did was buy a Vespa GTS300 for commuting.

Zips through traffic, great fuel economy, no chain to pfaff about with, cheap tyres, storage under the seat.

It's a no brainer, although I do make sure it's chained up at work in full view of the security guards.

  2. If your security guards are anything like mine...You'd be better actually chaining it to one of them!
It's only the arrival of the food van that moves the fuckers!

  3. Errr, nope. Im sure they're wonderful, but I want something super cheap, a bit of fun, but above all, a motorbike

  4. That's the thing with scooters; as practical as they look they're still a motorbike, so you still get wet and cold, and they can't do anything better than a man-bike with a topbox, saving for slightly better weather protection. I'd be saving my money for a shitty old SV650 rather than a rolling portaloo...

  5. Small update on the scooter "excursion"

I doubt I will hold on to it for long time it is just stupid contraption.

Brakes are now better as it turns out previous owner oiled the discs WTF?!

    - There is no weight on the front at all so letting the left bar go while accelerating gives huge tank slapper - Dangerous and need to remember to not scratch
    - When braking weight shifts violently forward which upsets the entire contraption more and to be honest it is very unstable already
    - To accelerate safely need to lean forward like on sports bike so mirrors become useless and dash is not reachable
    - Even in normal position dash is not visible so to check speed you need to look down and as dash is very close to body it is good proper look down which is highly dangerous
    - It does not accelerate which catches me out when I try to overtake .....
    - I am constantly being overtaken by cars not used to it at all, freaks me out
    - It does not handle
    - It has no real ground clearance I already lent it over so much I grinded panels on ground and I was doing maybe 40.
    - Throttle travel is more then on stock 996 throttle at the same time there is no usable power until you twist minimum half so my hand hurts. I will change throttle to a button on and off as for now all I do is have it shut or pinned open.
    - Brake levers are made of cheese. Rear brake lever pin hole is not round anymore from 15k use so brake sticks. Honda WTF?!

I have tried a new one recently to compare. I would never pay the asking price for that crap. My one came to just under 800 on road with service, MOT, Tax and few parts. It now seems expensive TBH despite being about 300-400 cheaper then others of same condition/age.

I do not get why Honda would fit ABS on the scooter it is almost impossible to lock front wheel anyhow.

There is more but those are main points for faults

    Good things
Service parts are 88GBP from Honda and that includes rollers and belt so big service
    Tyres are medium expensive
Do not know fuel economy yet but seems good
I can just go, press button on remote and go, no need to warm up or oil chain so cool

  17. WTF first adventure on scooter got back from work, stopped tried to put the centre stand down for it to brake in half at the weld where the little notch is to open it up.

Have to take 996 to work tomorrow and get scooter welded on weekend...... Grrrr

  18. just remember to wear an open face lid with a peak, a leather satchel and ride with your knees together to complete the look.

  20. There's a lot to be said for smaller bikes, they're much more nimble and you can get away with outrageous riding cos they don't bite so hard. Note that I said smaller bikes, not scooters. Scooters are for girls, Luca...
