What Made You Buy The Hypermotard?

I bought my 796 hyper to run alongside my (keeper) monster 1100evo.

I always liked the (acquired taste) looks and thought I'd run one for a couple of years and use it for trips etc.

After running the 796 for 3 years (TT's, MGP's & Italy jollies) I became an hypermotard fan, hence now chopping my 796 in for a 939.

Yes, they are an acquired taste in looks, I actually like the fact that not all enjoy the looks of hypers. I love the look but what makes hypers great is the riding, tight twisting roads are an absolute hoot... for me, that's where the fun is.

I started trolling the web for any for sale to get some idea of price,7-7.5k,still way too rich for me.....until M+S Motorcycles,up in Newcastle were selling a matt black one with 35 demonstrator miles on it....managed to do a deal with them for £5700 (as they were a good customer where I worked at the time ) delivered to my home in Aberystywth.
This was back in January 2011,still love the bike,the way it feels like a 125 when I sit on it,the way it handles effortlessly,thanks to the slipper clutch as standard and single-side swingarm (my then fiancé,couldn't keep up with me on the roads around Aber on his 98 streetfightered R1 )
After getting Termis and having the ECU flashed,I love the bike even more,does everything I want it to do .....except for those bloody mirrors,I hate them!!

I grew up on dirtbikes then when it came to the street i had the zrx1100..always liked to sit upright..im a huge motocross fan and sitting on a motard feels exactly the same as a dirtbike...

I ended up craving a Hyper after having one for six days on loan while my Scrambler was being worked on. I'd always thought the hyper's were kind of cool but a bit too weird looking and niche. I was offered a Monster 821 or the standard 939 Hyper. I'd had a Monster 1200s the week before, so time for something different...

I REALLY made the most of that week with the bike. Rode over the Peaks to visit my Dad and go for for a play with him and his mates on their big superbikes around Lincolnshire. Flew back over the peaks again and then took it on a 400 mile road trip up to Durham.
That was a long day. It was the morning after the Brexit vote and I was absolutely fuming, so the poor thing got flogged up the motorways. I've always ridden naked bikes but it still felt like my head was going to drop off when I arrived. What a laugh though!
The dealer was surprised to find... quite a few miles on the clock of their demo. I reminded them these miles were intended for my Scrambler (which they'd had for nearly 3 months) and that kept them quiet!

The Hyper was NEVER dull, not for even a second. It made mincemeat of heavy traffic but more importantly it totally munched start/stop twisty and torn up backroads. Even on the sub par standard suspension, you could bury the front end on the way into a corner and then just fly out the other side, front wheel skipping merrily along the tarmac... I'm certainly no expert, I've been riding around 7 years in total but the Hyper fills you with absolute confidence.

Que my 939 SP arriving a few days ago, almost a year after sampling the Hyper.
Riding the Monster 1200s, Multistrada 1200s and several other 150+ bhp freight trains, made it abundantly clear I am not mature enough for that level of responsibility. I'd quickly be in prison! but my Scrambler as much as it really tried, just wasn't enough bike. It all too frequently ran out of brakes and the suspension wasn't as willing as the rest of the machine.

The hyper is a proper Goldilocks bike. It's got enough to feel quick in any company but not so much that it all gets too serious. It's going to be a good year!

Wow...well said dude!!! I also had the scrambler and it was too small for me, it was meant for shorter person, shorter legs...i fit perfect on the motard, sits up high u can see over traffic...the scrambler colors r what took my mind off the hyper plus it was affordable 205mo no money down...but im 5 11, 188pds, and long commute to work was hurting my hips it wasnt meant for distance, but the hyper definetly is!!!
