It's been mentioned by them, it's to control engine braking so the valve effectively alters the back pressure in the braking zones to control entry to corners, again something the BSB bikes can't do because of their stock Motec ECU.

It makes sense as yesterday watching it on TV I could hear a Weid noise everytime the Ducati approached a corner I'm guessing that's what I might have been hearing then...
