Simple question really. I’ve had Ducati’s for about ten years now and I want a ‘R’. I want the forever bike. I’ll be partex’ing a 1299S, one owner (me), but want a ‘R’ as my forever bike. Being honest I’m not sure I want a V4 as I like the Vee Twin concept but equally I’d much prefer new. Im not not looking at depreciation massively but want ‘the bike’. I’m nearly 50 and want to buy the bike I keep. I know this may be an impossible question- stay tuned for ‘what’s next week lottery numbers’ type questions (this information would actually not help me in the slightest sadly, I’m not in the Uk and haven’t been for months sadly. I can’t bet on the Lottery!!!! I can however make plans for my return!).
Panigale R, post 2015. Many on here will tell that the Panigale 1299FE isn’t a true R as it is a 1299cc not an 1198cc but it is one hell of a bike and would be my choice. Andy
In my limited experience I'd say a 2nd model Panigale R... R model Ducati's always seem to follow a depreciation path similar or perhaps 'slightly' worse than normal models, but then the go up sharply. All the older models have already gone onto the 'very steep' part of that appreciation, 1098R's are already big money, 996R's are often getting on for £30k. Even my mates 748R which he bought for £10k last summer and I said he was mad, because he also bought one for £7k in 2017, well now dealers are fairly regularly advertising them at nearer £12-13k (obv this doesn't mean they are selling for that but applies to all these prices). So yeah, I would say at least a Panigale R is probably still common enough and on the right path to be a forever bike. I don't really know if I'd have considered a Panigale Final Edition as a 'R', the only bike I don't agree is an 'R' is the Monster 1200R, sorry to say it... For me the R has to have the Homologation or hand built aspect to it.
Smart 1098. The last proper R. Definitely going in Ducati’s Hall of Fame. Enviable race success history too…
just jumping on this one. Why post ‘15? I’ve seen a ‘13 I really like the look of but am wondering why post ‘15 might be different/better? TIA BJB
Yeah recently shared a pit garage with a lad with one of these. Very nice indeed. They can shift too apparently…
The following links to information on the 1198 cc Gen 2 Panigale R might be of interest: https://ducati-specs.com/models/ducati-panigale-r.html https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/new-bike-panigale-r.73453/ https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/after-having-a-1299s-how-will-i-find-a-panigale-mk-2.87850/ https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/ducati/ducati_1299R Panigale 15.htm It's worth noting that the Panigale R 2015-2017 has manually adjustable suspension. Hope it helps. Tom.
A ‘13 is the first generation 1199R which is generally considered to be not quite as good as the 2nd generation Panigale R in the new 1299 bodywork. Andy
I'd agree with the 1299 Panigale R FE, sounds epic! But the post-15 Panigale R's are also a great choice as a forever bike. How about the 1299 Superleggera or even the 1199 version? Mega bucks though!
Why not consider this one off classic masterpiece https://www.thebikespecialists.com/...heffield-dc8e41a7-0f13-4295-9b0b-9aaccc8f3282
if money was no object id love a 998r last of the 916 shape bikes but very nice indeed. but the new bikes id definatly go panigale r 2015 on.
