1200 Which Model Of 1200 Multi To Buy?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Dave, Jan 17, 2021.

  1. Here’s the prices of all the 2012 models currently on eBay and AutoTrader

    Miles Price
    4841 £9628 S Touring
    19907 £7395 S Touring
    23568 £6980 S Touring
    37339 £6195 S Touring
    34366 £5999 S Touring

    20558 £8394 Pikes Peak
    37339 £6195 Pikes Peak

  2. And here’s the prices of 2016 Pikes Peak bikes. The one near me is on the first row. It looks good value compared to the others.

    Miles Price
5588 £12999 Pikes Peak inc luggage + extras
14621 £12995 Pikes Peak no luggage
15614 £12495 Pikes Peak inc luggage
16532 £12995 Pikes Peak no luggage

  3. Crazy price on the 2012.

Ride each model, then you’ll know.

  4. I had a 2010 S with Ohlins and did 32K miles in 3 years and it was a cracking bike, made in Italy and rebuilt in Surrey! once it got to 20K I had no issues at all :). No doubt the 2012 Multi will have the rawest engine, DVT are a bit softer as was the twin spark.
Watch out for the valve service (every 12k - IIRC?) make sure it has been done and if not and it is due soon adjust price accordingly, could be about £800-£1,000. Also check the seals on the front Ohlins.

  5. Whatever you buy Dave get a warranty. I got badly stung with a 1200.

  6. Aye. Just for my own interest I’m going to sound out the dealer on the 2012 to see if they are really serious about that price.

It’s tricky to find bikes to test ride at the mo but I won’t be doing anything till I have tried them all.

  7. what happened?

  8. Main bearings at 12000 miles. One owner machine with a full service history

  9. Our used market here in Canada is the same. Sellers are expecting way too much. Same for cars.
Lots to do with financing as the vehicle values depreciated faster than the residual amount owing.
Lenders are at the heart of the problem. People can't afford the payments consequently they stretch the terms longer than they should.

  13. I think you were very unlucky. I'd heard a few years back of one or two 2010/2011 bikes suffering main bearing failure, but none from more recent years.
Anyone else heard of mains failures?

  14. Ouch. Unless it happened really soon after purchase I don't know anywhere you'd get a warranty against that kind of thing on a used bike.

  15. Thanks very much for the offer. Sadly I'm down in Devon.

  16. If you buy from a dealer they should be able to offer you an extended warranty. At a price obviously!

  17. North or south Devon, my mum moved to Shaldon for a few years.

  18. Has your mum got a Multi then?

  20. I paid £6500 for my '63 1200s touring (Skyhook, twinspark) with extras with 11k miles on the clock. It was from a Honda dealer and Dec 19.

As for the height, I'm 5'8" and its ok can happily flat foot on one side at the lights, paddle on my toes on both feet a bit, just have to be mindful of camber and where I'm stopping etc. Also a little daunting 2 up due to the weight esp uphill, steep junctions. A mate had a DVT for a while and I seem to recall the seat height and width a little easier to deal with on that, didn't feel so top heavy either?
