Which top box?

  1. Longwayhome thanks for the pics. It was a Yamaha dealer I went to! When I'm next passing them I'll have another (much closer) look.

  2. never seen so many top boxes, i think the original one looks best if you have to have one

  3. I like this one from SW Motech. Quick release and very sturdy! Have subsequently bought the back rest too.

  5. That has got to be the ugliest set of luggage I have ever seen, by some margin. An old cardboard box bungeed to the pillion seat would be less awful. No offence meant!

  6. The SW Motech Trax boxes may be a bit ungainly, however as far as the panniers are concerned they are infinitely more practical than the Ducati ones. Personally I think the Trax top box is a bit of a fridge freezer and offers nothing over the Ducati box. Ideally I would have the Duc top box with the Trax panniers

  7. I like the 46 sticker at the front because Valentino Rossi definitely has a set. No offence.

  8. Ok Ok so I set myself up for some banter , but having lost a stock pannier somewhere on the road between here and Goodwood, I vowed that looks dont count but that its important to have a system that doesnt depart on the hoof!

The aluminium panniers are also more durable, stronger and water tight! No you folks can keep your "dainty" little panniers! :upyeah:

PS Before anyone asks, the Ducati pannier was locked and key was in my pocket....Luckily it was empty....(Perhaps thats why it fell off???)

PS2 Aircon, I watched the little clip, and uncle Adolf must really have been mad....he was grumbling about having to use a GS instead of a Honda....Now that is crazy!

  9. Top boxes don't really suit the bike IMO.
I use this for most things with a small tank bag and the panniers is enough space for even the most avid packer

  10. It depends if you want useful capacity for two up touring. Standard Multi panniers plus Givi 52l Trekker topbox works well. Buy the Trekker inner bag and when on the ferry/at hotel (?) lift the bag out and the box takes two full face helmets. Very handy. Agree it doesn't look as good, no top box looks good IMO but I cant see the bloody thing when riding ;)

  11. Standard Ducati offering is the only option for me.

I still need to get some panniers though

  12. Standard Ducati top box may cost more but it matches and looks the best plus better if the bike is ever sold. As others say it's QD.

I use mine for backwards and forwards to work though when touring Europe I use a Kreiga US 30, or a roll bag on the back seat as it's more aero dynamic allowing a higher top speed than with the top box.

I travel light, never use the panniers and maybe my definition of touring is "different". Performance touring is a better description.

  13. Everything I need for 2 weeks and the roll bag too big was half empty. Valubles and things that may be needed quickly go in the tank bag

  14. Try this guy on ebay

    seller:topboxmotorcycleluggage

i got a topbox and rack last week from him. It was 275 as I collected with givi back rest, givi v47 box same as Ducati one I believe in a red that matches my multistrada with carbon bit on it as well and the rack. Really nice genuine guy and will customise what you want. Certainly worth a look at it your after a box.

  15. So now you have had a good look at my standard Ducati topbox, AirCon, what do you think?

  16. Err Pete I'm not sure what to say. It's certainly given me plenty to think about. I think the Givi item has a better finish, as I think the Givi OEM is a base product. At this stage I wouldn't proceed with a Ducati Top box as it would mean I'd have to remove my tail tidy or make special support brackets for the top box.

  17. By the way, here is the link to TyrePal for the tyre pressure monitoring system which I mentioned. For it to work, you do have to remember to bring it with you - and switch it on - unlike me yesterday.

  18. I have a tail tidy, so no top box support arms. Done about 3k miles without any problems and been up to the 120 mark.

  19. Here's mine with standard Ducati luggage in the superior, and more refined matt silver colour ;)
