Until you crash, write off someone's car, cause an injury and you become another uninsured wanker because your insurance isn't valid. Not you personally, obviously.
Strange. You'd spare no expense on such an upgraded bike in the quest for cheaper insurance (illegally). That's pretty bizarre.
Very True tomrowley. But if I want a 1liter bike and wasn't allowed due to the new laws I'd definitely go for something think like this. But I don't as I have 5 bikes 1000rr 675r 848 trx 450r and ktm 450f I have different bike's for fun and work duty. And many of us bikers upgrade are bikes to make the more responsive quicker and powerful. That bike wouldn't need anything else. But each to there own
The old traffic cops used to have a 'device' that could tell what cc a bike was. But that was yrs ago now and I doubt it necessary today. All my old scooters were >200cc but registered as 125's. Yep i crashed em too. No probs. Luckily I wasn't insured and I generally fell off it on my own in a field or on the beach at Margate. Maybe pissed too. Definitely 'speeding'. I want to be 17 again. I did write off a Brown Austin Princess with a Vespa chopper once. That was a public service. I guess the device came in when the new cc laws came in in 82ish. It popped into the spark lug ole and the cops would kick start and it would let them know the scoot was >125. They used to nick loadsa scoots just outside rally places. Anyway the seller would get more selling the engine and returning it to 848 standard. I would only ever buy a bog standard Ducati with a FSH. At a push termi's only. Any bitsa I would steer clear off unless I knew the bike, the seller, the history and it was the right price. I think this is the overwhelming consensus of Ducatisti.
In the new licensing laws, A2 bikes must be restricted to 46.6bhp with an original bike output not exceeding 93bhp so 848s and 1198s are in the same licensing group- unrestricted. Still dont understand why anyone would do this to an 848 that's not been crashed or engine blown up but some people do enjoy major tinkering. Horses for courses and all that
My moneys on a lunched engine, and if so why not chuck something bigger in there. Like having a New bike What I do t get is why people put the wrong fairings on their bike to pretend its something its not, then take delight in it blowing others away,..as if it was that bike ;-)
