Will a 200/60-R17 fit on a 1098R? I'm having trouble sourcing a 190/55 Pirelli in SC1, only SC2 available. So will the bigger tyre physically fit in the swing arm?
I asked a similar question but for a 200/55 a while ago. I had a positive response from somone who uses the Pirelli but I suspect that as the 60 profile is nearly an inch bigger on diameter than the 55 profile, it could be too big. Andy
Actually I'm looking at switching to Dunlops and their size is 195/65 which would be even worse right?
This is probably a country specific thing as the Dunlop GP racer D212 comes in a 190/55 and a 200/55 in the UK and Metzeler do a slick in 200/55. Andy
According to the Pirelli website they do not offer a 190 in anything other than SC2 https://www.pirelli.com/tyres/en-gb/motorcycle/all-tyres/sheet/diablo-superbike#/size-range
If you have stock sprocket sizes, the 200/60 will hit back of swing arm when going at speed, even though it will clear with tyre warmer. No amt of chain adjustment will fix this. A 200/55 will fit. I tried both combo on my 1098r at Jerez. Was blackflagged when using the 200 as it was smoking and they thought i was abt to catch fire. I just told them I was too quick If you have stock sprocket sizes, the 200/60 will hit back of swing arm when going at speed, even though it will clear with tyre warmer. My mate Mike used to run them no problem, but that was on a longer mag swinger, not sure if that makes a difference Is this 996 or 1098?
I've got KR108 195/65 on my hybrid with a 1098 swingarm, the eccentrics just rear of centre and there's about 15mm of clearance so shouldn't be a problem on your R
Well I'm going to try the Dunlops this weekend. Just have to check which sizes are available in Hungary.
This is interesting, because if I calculate the 'height' of the tyre then it is bigger than a 200/60? 200 x 0.60 = 120 195 x 0.65 = 126.75 So the 195 has a bigger circumference and if that fits then a 200/60 will also fit fine? I will have 14T front and 39T rear sprockets.
I think I will have to adjust the TC using the TC-Pod which has this ability for different tyre sizes. Going for the Dunlops which are only available in 195/65 or 205/60, so the 205 should be a safer bet I hope.
I used the 195 Dunlop kr's on my 1198, as long as the chain and gearing allow the eccentric adjuster to be quite far back it had just enough clearance !!
