Planning installing 3 or 4 strip lights in the garage/ workshop, want them to be fairly bright and will be keeping them fairly low, Ive never used or even seen what like the led strip lights are and looking for advice on these 4ft ones, These any good or am I better just sticking to ones with tubes?? See link, Any advice appreciated https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2ft-4ft-...var=621840533075&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 Cheers Jack
I have replaced a 4ft tube with a 2ft 18W LED one similar to those. When I can I will replace the other 3 tubes - I’d say the LED gives a ‘better’ light.
I was thinking 4ft 36w so sounds like its going to be bright enough, Don't want to go to 5ft tbh, Ta for that mate
I have them and they are far better than regular strip. Worth the money Sorry can’t help any more, I paid someone to do the job and buy the right stuff.
Buy good quality ones though. Cheap Chinese versions last about 8-12 months and go bang. I had six fitted in my garage and all went bad after said period, I now bought phillips versions and they work really well.
We’ve got the screwfix luceco weatherproof ones in the garage they’re still going strong - garage isn’t too watertight
Just back after ordering the ones in the link above, Hopefully they will last, Just seen above you say cheap ones don't last, ive no idea if these are cheap ones or not, Time will tell
Just an update, Just fitted first LED strip light as in my link in first post, As far as LED goes over the fluorescent im delighted, Better than expected tbh, Ive not seen any other led strip lights before but these certainly look pretty cheap and light, Maybe most are like this I don't know? If that's the case maybe spent a little more on better quality ones next time but saying that time will tell on how long they last, Cheers again for the advice guys Jack
The fluorescents in my garage are getting old and dim and at least one tube needs replacing so I decided to swap them for LED panels which I think should give a better spread of soft light. I have initially ordered 2 of these 1200mm x 300mm panels which arrived yesterday ( since I ordered the price has gone up by a fiver and they're out of stock). I'll be installing them today. The plan is to place one either side of the centre of the garage where I'll usually be working on a bike and if they are a success fit another above the bench. And they have a 5 year guarantee which can't be bad.
I’ve got led tubes. 2x2. Very happy but I’ve had to fit a normal bulb holder in separately for when I’ve got the Xbox on because it’s too bright to see the TV in the garage with the LED on.
You do know you can use your old florescent fitting and change the tubes to led? All you need to do is disconnect the old gear ( ballast starter etc ) and connect a live and neutral directly to one end only of your fitting ( the other end is only used to hold tge new tube )and hey ho led light.
I've just replaced the lights in my garage and gone with LED panels. Transformed it. I chose these https://www.ledpanelstore.co.uk/ajax/index/options/product_id/4/?___SID=U You need to order the mounting kits too though - I didn't realise this when I placed my order and bought them seperately after going for the kits with plastic corners. These work fine but if you need to take them down I think it will be a git to take the frames apart where as the metal corners look like they would be easy to dismantle.
Since I was suspending mine I didn't need the mounting kits. The transformation of the lighting is brilliant (pun intended)
