I agree, the mirror is a shit rag, but the article highlights an issue which I feel is growing and unnecessarily stopping harmless interaction between some little kids and an old boy doing well to get out there each day and do something with his remaining years. Its a slightly less generous defined benefit scheme rather than a defined contribution scheme - still gold plated compared to what the rate payers generally have offered to them

Where I work there are 2 weeks of strikes planned. I don’t understand pensions, but the Union figures on the impact is quite frightening. 40% to 50% reductions mentioned. There are colleges of mine that would never consider striking are doing it this time. I believe my pension was one of the best around but it’s being torn apart. I’m now convinced pensions are a con and I’m in the generation that’s getting shafted big time.
We've been provided with a calculator to work our indicidual figures out. It's s**t really, as I've been there over 25years, with no indication this was going to happen. Out of the blue, it was announced and affects a couple of thousand people.
‘Industry gets paid more’ was trashed during pay negotiations and that the pension was a massive benefit. Not anymore unfortunately. Strikes are coming over wages. The dick pensions minister recently retired with a disgusting pension. Fucker
changing the t&c and moving the goalposts like that is just fraud really, but pension funds, banks and insurance companies get away with it constantly, absolutely shameful, I said twenty years ago by the time I get to a pensioner age, the word pension will no longer be known, and sadly it is going that way!
100% correct on both counts Gordon Brown raided the pension posts half a generation ago and where they used to earn money tax free they now longer do so the earnings growth was slashed by 30% However as a tax shelter for those that are able to exploit them they can be useful, however as you can only withdraw £4k a year aged 55-65 or what ever your pensionable age is this is some what limited
