Disagree completely. The Cold War had a degree of stability and predictability about it. That has now gone. The US and Russia are currently involved in a hot war by proxy in Syria and are both testing respective weaknesses in cyberspace, EU poking Russia over Crimea/Ukraine, US applying sanctions and manipulating oil prices to pile on the pressure etc etc. Putin has re-iterated his nuclear strategy as a first option......something the old Cold War warriors never did. We are in completely different times and the omens don't look good. As an aside, I spent 14 years of my career with The MOD during the 70/80s and don't remember anyone underestimating the capability of the Warsaw Pact.......the whole scenario was built around stopping them getting to the Dutch coast before hitting the button (estimated at around 4 days..). I would agree that the cost of this pretty well bankrupted them.........but I don't ever doubt that they had a massive capability. Let's hope you are right.........
That's not from The Observer newspaper, is it? I don't know what agenda Observer is pushing. It's American and therefore dubious. Also that article is dated 11th February this year and is seriously out of date. Putin has been cosying up to Turkey recently, not starting WW3 with it.
The whole thread is out of date. Moved on here: http://ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/believe-it-or-not.47094/page-2#post-826628
