What annoys me is that Blair invented (well, he was coached into doing it) a certain gesture with his hands when making a point which no one in real life ever makes. This made him look coached and phoney. Lo and behold, both Cameron and Clegg, certainly, and Milliband to a lesser extent, also make this gesture. It's a presenting of the backs of your hands to your audience with the thumbs sticking up. It really pisses me off. No earlier politicians made this gesture - you simply cannot imagine Thatcher, Heath or Wilson, or even Major ever making it. It's a pure invention for the soundbite age. It screams that these are fake people who will say whatever they think the electorate wants to hear rather than what they believe. It's a sort of technocrat politician gesture.
He looks like he is begging you to vote for him Saying please god let them believe what I'm saying Not him above the other one
Blair looks as if he is asking you to come into the garden and play with his team and I will close the gates and keep you all in
Cameron likes the non-aggressive little camp fist gesture to indicate resolve and firmness but with just enough non-threatening ponciness to show that he is of the centre. Gordon Brown tells voters what he really thinks of them:
