I’ve mentioned this in another thread but thought I’d start one specifically to ask if anyone has any experience repairing or suggestions of companies that specialise in repairing bike exhausts. This is a 57mm Termi system from a 999. Is the consensus that this damage is even repairable? Any recommendations would be great.
I’m no expert but that looks like a tricky repair. One would need to cut out the damage and weld in new sections. Likely easier to just replace the damaged parts. However, having said that the damage is unlikely to have a significant effect on performance and is also hidden so, if it were me, I’d sell it as it is at a suitably reduced price.
The denting on the larger "twin pipes" looks as though somebody has inflicted this with some kind of punching. This is not in fact a clearance thing similar to the banana system on a 999 is it? EDIT Just answered my question, so it has been "modified" to fit, but does it still fit when the dent has been removed? There are many 999 experts on here, but I assumed the banana approach was adopted because the outer diameter of the tube was larger than std, and so this was the only way it would fit (so not sure it would fit without the flattening), could be wrong.

As can be seen in the other thread, these round systems do fit black swingarm/deep sump but they are super tight on clearance. I reckon somebody has tried to fit it badly, thought bloody hell, that will never fit and laid into it with a hammer. They need extreme care to fit and about 16 pairs of hands to hold it all lightly in place before tightening it all up!
have you ever fitted one R? I mean the genuine "banana" system. Thinking about it logically, if it is an aftermarket larger bore pipe, then it ain't gonna fit anyway without massaging*. Same old problem, it's impossible to know the answer when trying to do it remotely. * Using the term extremely lightly in this case.
I have fitted the 57mm round system to 749R at least twice (removed both for polishing then reinstalled). Not done a banana type but basically the same apart from the squished pipe. Did both mine without help but there was lots of jiggling, swearing and use of both feet and hands at the same time.
Wrap it in heat proof (engineering woven titanium) lark & ignore. Building up a wedge/bump of material before wrapping in the worst zones.
You can use a multi fingered weld on tool to pull out 95% of the dents. the rest could be dressed from inside. If the pipe is too long to access from inside it could be cut and rewelded again by a specilalist. Anything is repairable with time (and money)
I think you would need to cut the pipe at the weld (marking for alignment and length) then using heat (oxy acetylene) together with suitably sized tapered and radiused bars, slowly reshape the tube from inside I think that could be possible to restore the cross sectional area and return flow to close to where it was but don’t think it’s possible to restore the external appearance to anything like stock
