999 Just Picked Up A 999s, Calling Her Valentina!

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by TheJackal, Sep 5, 2020.

  1. Yes, later coils can be used on earlier bikes. Gets the front coil connector out of the weather.

  2. Searched and although its possible, seems like later 5AM ECUs are required.

If I go down this route then it could be another headache for something as simple as a plug. Unless someone has got a spare one lying around, used wiring loom might be the safest bet at the moment.

  3. 59M or 5AM does not matter. I have the fly lead type fitted to my 59M equipped 999. Same coil just with a fly lead incorporated.

  4. Finally got round to re-fitting the fairings as the front forks were off being serviced and Ohlins parts took ages to come through.

Turns out the huge MOSFET R/R, in the position I thought would be ok, isn't. Wouldn't allow the fairing to get close enough to the frame so that it would find its place down in by the radiator.

Found a new spot for it using the upper battery box mounting hole and a quickly made brakcet:

Also fitted new Dunlop Sportsmart 3 rubber (120/70 + 180/60)....now just need for it to stop raining outside!

  5. And the clutch problem?
    Already solved?

  6. Last time I rode the bike it was ok but I wanted to go out for a longer ride. Unfortunately with the weather we've had over here I haven't been able to go out yet which is annoying.

Hoping for a dry day although weather forecast only shows rain for the next 7 days...

  7. Its cold!!!

  8. Finally the rain abided and managed to go out on decent ride this morning :)

Clutch lever issue is still there. The trigger seems to be slipping the clutch in slow traffic.

Wasn't as bad lever wise as the last time I experienced it because overall ambient temperature is now lower. Wonder if this is definitely something related to the master cylinder seals?

  9. Had to bleed the 999 clutch master again using the bleed screw inside the reservoir before going out for a run this morning. Noticed a lot of dark grey looking gunk coming out of the bleed screw...

There's definitely air getting in there and I'm starting to believe its a result of simple clutch use because after this morning's bleed, its back to the same!

Ordered a 1098 clutch master off eBay :)

  10. Tried a tywrap? Pull it in..tywrap..en rotate the wheel. Must be free now.... check the next morning. If it still free..it must be something with heat or what ever. If its not free rotating....itmust be internal. Or the slave..or the master

  11. Any progress??

  12. Bad weather every single week means I haven't been out to properly test it. A static test (zip tie overnight) is fine.

  13. Just overhauled my oem clutch master.
Secondary seal had a damage of the compensation hole inside the cilinder.
Also an new hose cause the oem is old.
A new oberon was fitted in november. That was leaking also. Still had clutch fade. Thats why i overhauled it.

  15. After all the crap weather we've been having over here and despite curfew restrictions, I've finally managed a short 15min ride on the bike.

Clutch issue is fixed and I'm putting it down to the 848 master cylinder, no issues whatsoever now!

  16. Also flashed the 999S Ducati Performance map and results are....underwhelming.

It seems to have lost all that fat and juicy low/mid range torque but does rev out faster.

  17. Why have you done this? Benefits??

  18. Great work - I've a similar 999s with a lot of goodies from the R. That 749R tank is very rare. I've a full 999R fairing option too. Brand new, never been used as it came off a race bike.
