916 is the obvious one for investment/classic status. But to ride, any of them are fantastic. I’ve owned 998S and 996 biposto (my current bike, converted by last owner to mono seat unit and SPS look - not original, but I love the look).

I think Andy’s advice is spot on: buy the best bike you can find for your budget, regardless of model (looks preferences aside).

 

I rode my 996 to Ace last year and won't be doing it again. It's open road or nothing.
