General Question/observation On Lithium Batteries

  1. No I am referring to the vapour inside the tank which is highly explosive and that is the reason that you pump it into your cylinders.
The lithium battery does not even give off vapour.

  2. My late father was a RAF mechanic on Spitfires in WW2 in Burma. Apparently the standard trick on a cold morning was to extinguish your cigarette in a 50 gallon drum of aviation fuel and watch the newbies all fling themselves to the floor. Of course, no vapour, no BANG!!!

  3. During my RAF time we had to complete a days fire training once a year. The firemen used to fill a large flat tray with jet fuel (kerosene and diesel are almost the same) and then try to light it so that we could play with the different fire extinguishers. I have seen them spend ages with burning rags trying it get it to ignite.
Problem with petrol is that you cannot get a match near the liquid due to the vapour and that does go bang. Every year there is a news report of some idiot trying to light his garden fire with petrol.

  4. I have been a supporter of lithium batteries and put one on my 749 a few years back, great starting which was always a problem. So here’s where I have to eat shit because this weekend its time to start up the 749 and thought to charge it a bit first but after a while went to start and 10v show on the dash, so keep charging over the weekend and still no go, pictures attached show why, the battery has blown inside only happy I don't have the house fire to put out!
Note that this happened during charging from a proper lithium charger, not though bike use, battery is around 3 to 4years old. As much as I like it I will not fit the lithium unless I change the charge system on the bike, and then that does not make it safe as my IPad blew in the same way, so I reckon not to leave on charge when you are no close by.

  5. Also worth a note reading though the comments here, Its been bloody cold in the Garage over the winter and is still cold now in the garage, and may have been the reason. Life at the bottom of the Alps!
