Multistrada 1000 Ds Instrument Cluster.

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by marsheng, Jul 24, 2019.

  1. Hi guys I’m thinking of buying a multistrada 1000 2003, it has the problem with water ingress in the instrument cluster, I don’t know the first thing about electronics so is it worth buying with this problem and can it be sent anywhere to be fixed, would it be expensive?

  2. Hi Colin
It’s difficult to answer this one, it really is an “how long is a piece of string “question unfortunately, because you could be lucky and it could be repaired relatively cheaply, but if it turns out to be seriously corroded and therefore seriously damaged inside then it could be far more expensive and realistically you then have two choices. The first is to start to trawl through eBay both here and in other countries in the hope that you will find a reasonably priced secondhand replacement set , i’ve been following prices for three years and I’ve done it once at a cost of £600 about two years ago. On this first option, you could also go on the Multistrada forum and get details of the specialist on there, forgotten his name begins with M. The second option, is that you forget trying to retain the original set up using the standard instrument panel, and adapt it to use an aftermarket equivalent. I haven’t fully explored this option yet but I know it’s possible. The initial purchase price of the bike is a factor here of course , and also whether it’s a priority to keep it standard or not.

  3. The bike is cheap to be fair, he says it has starting problems because of the clocks, if I got cocks for £250-£300 it would still be a cheap bike as long as it is that that’s the problem, thanks for your reply

  4. No, but must confess to have forgotten. I'm due an excavation at the weekend, I'll let you know if there's any luck, Chris

  5. You are probably already aware but due to the immobiliser system fitted as standard, it's not just a straightforward instrument swap unfortunately, @chrisw can add more here, and may have some s/hand stock available as regards ECU if necessary.
